Wot he says. I love camping and walking in the great outdoors but I wouldn't want to do it every day. Each to their own though.

I'd like a boat moored up in the South of France (just for the record, I would actually very much like to be on it every day! ). Sadly, without a huge lottery win or an astronomical increase in the price of PMs to highs never seen or even dreamt of before, it ain't gonna happen...

SkyyFyre, does your bit of land have to be in the UK ? I'd have thought you could get what you're after in Europe for a lot less money than here and depending which bit of Europe you go to all the trappings of modern life might be thin on the ground.

Ooh, you know what, I was fantasizing about living on a boat, and found a lovely "river boat" - meant for UK canals, but you can pootle about between river estuaries in good weather - 24' long, same facilities as a one bedroom flat, including a multi-fuel burner, less than £5k - allow another £2k for fitting up to my personal taste, and I could rent out my house for £1100 a month (down south, 15m walk to a fast train to London) lovely-jubbly. I'm really tempted, but I'll have to be convinced my viral problems are over before I actually commit to doing this.

Like I said: SolutionsRUs

But yes, a huge lottery win would help (if I played it  ) though I do have some premium bonds rotting away somewhere ...

And yes, European land - I have experience of two properties in France, but any little survey of the Overseas link on Rightmove will give you lots of choice :)

We all have different of ideas as to why we are prepping and what, of out current lifestyle, we want to keep. Frankly, I HAVE been and done this as (when the admins get back to me and tell me how you post up a complete webpage here) I will tell you all about. I'm way past the 'thoughts and ideas' I've been out and about and DONE this.. just it's getting (to my mind) more a way of life I want than the material things around me at the moment! I'm not 'pouring scorn' on anyone.. I want to give people who can use it what I have learned and researched! As I've said before, if you don't like my opinions or ideas, or indeed my own philosophy, don't use them! BUT don't come sniping at me for what I feel, hope for and do!

SkyyFyre wrote:Let's put it this way.. if I COULD get something like a Bothy, or a Croft, clear owned or at reasonable rent, I would! BUT as I said, funds are limited, and land costs rising out of all proportion. Most of them seem to be 'Holiday Cottages' now :( This seems to be a way around it to me.

I'd love to find a disused farm or cottage I could, with my skills, rebuild and end up living the life I want. I would, but everything is owned, often by people who don't know what's there! Landowners often have huge areas of land, in excess of 100,000 acres, yet they don't let any of it out to others. It's for Grouse shooting (how to kill thousands of birds in a day, and make money at it), farms, similar (how to be paid not to use the land), or, unfortunately, the churches, who's land is tax-free to them, and has been deeded over the years by people who die. And, let's not mention the lands held by the Royalty (a whole different subject). Other problems are: Local council requirements (who can do what, where), and Government regulations on the same. See for example the guy who built his own Manor House on his own land concealed behind hay bales, only to be told 'Demolish it, it's not a suitable building in this area and there was no planning permission!).'

All I ask is the opportunity to live in a small plot (1/2 acre?) with a small cottage, or place to build, water, and a little foraging.

As to power outages, first, consider what you need, and then think of Solar panels, or wind generation. Balance the cost outlay against savings on what you WOULD pay to the electricity companies. Use wood-burning stoves/ranges/heating. Make what you can before just going and buying it. Likewise on water.. if you have a well, or spring, consider wind-power for a small pump to keep you topped up, and a small water tower. You don't need a massive tower to give enough head of water pressure.

Just a few thoughts, and sorry for the rant, but that is the one thing that stops people going out and doing it.

Well in your earlier post it certainly comes across as something on the 'to do' list as opposed to living it.

You need to change your attitude to the the members of our community, quite frankly. Your posts are practically dripping with condescension. Try reading some of them again, I think you may get an unpleasant surprise! Check your tone and start to act like you actually value being a member here and stop preaching about all your self-proclaimed achievements, it just gets peoples' backs up, which you are already experiencing. It's a shame, because if you know as much as you say you do, then your contributions to the forum could be really valuable and interesting, but the way you are going about it is just pissing people off.

So, how do I send up a whole webpage? I keep asking and no-one has responded!

I could send bits of it, but it does not say who I am, what I am, and what I know, unless people ask!

Incidentally, do you know the real meaning of the term 'Druid'? It means 'Man of knowledge' that at least I have , so ask and I will reply.

I do not condescend, for none is lower than I or the next person, I DO resent people stamping on knowledge, hopes, desires and achievements, and to be honest I have seen quite a bit of that here, along with some good solid guidance.

Clearly you cannot see your own short comings then, you are rubbing people up the wrong way who I had yet to see get rattled, please pay attention and take Itsy's advice, for a mod that's as nice as it's going to get, it's not always easy to see how the written word can have an "offish" tone, many an online bun fight has occurred between otherwise friendly people who just have an unintentional abrasive tone to their writing, to me sitting on the fence I can see why they have taken their stance, if you can't, it'll keep happening,as for the webpage :- every time you make a post you see above in one of the tool boxeswhere you could post a link to Your webpage and that will lead folk to what you want them to look at, you can even link to it in your profile, many do :)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

And the penny drops.......Basically, you're wanting to spam our forum with your idea of prepping from your webpages and maybe get some traffic onto it too. Thus far all I've gleaned from most of your posts, is that we're doing it wrong, you have all the answers and it's all on your website.
