Lugols Iodine

Post by montys footman »

A spark from a sparker set fire to the cloths in the laundry basket, I threw the burning cloths into the garden, a pair of nylon or nylon like pj's left melting material on my hand. So had a good few blisters and one almost to the bone burn. So tried germolene, and as that didn't work, I packed it with salt (very tender lol) and still the main burn got infected. Finger swelling and difficult to bend. As i hate doctors and anti-biotics, and was losing the battles I tried the Lugols Iodine 12% Solution, think bought off Ama--- for Mrs thinking she had low iodine levels. It worked a treat. Put a drop or two a couple of times a day, mild tingle but nothing to worry about. The infection disappeared and as I put drops on all the other blisters none of them got infected.

The point is its worth having in the cupboard. Any sign of infection in blisters etc it works a treat. Barely used any so should last ages. Just though I would share. And the moral is don't use your hand to throw burning cloths!!! If you do use iodine to prevent or kill infection. Any one else tried iodine for fighting infection?

It's good stuff and for the price you can't reslly say no to it.

Be careful not to spill it though!

The last time I saw that was donkeys years ago when I fell through my mates shed roof (long story :) ) he dug out his first aid kit and it was left over from WW2 (possibly older) I'd got a nasty cut on my leg so we bunged some on, turned my leg yellow and stung like hell, but it worked, no infection and the shed was minging.

I've got some as part of my medical supplies but I've not had cause to use it thankfully. Nice and cheap and very effective I'm led to believe and yes, I've got memories of wincing as it was put on cuts etc when I was wee.

It seems you can still buy the stuff on Amazon, to be honest I'd thought it was stopped being used years ago.
