Used my emergency cash stash to get my car repaired, 20 days after a full service and MOT.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Sounds about right give the car some TLC and that's how they repay you!
What broke?
Modern cat dealer servicing is a joke if you look at the schedule most don't even strip the brakes and clean them and most "visually inspect and report" = drum up work
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Spring - leading to disc and new front tyre. Good job it happened just off my drive and not on the motorway or..............Yorkshire Andy wrote:pseudonym wrote:Used my emergency cash stash to get my car repaired, 20 days after a full service and MOT.

Sounds about right, most modern car repairs now, start around £500 onwards, i can think of at least five things on my car that start at £1000, but, unfortunately we want our cars and we always find the money if need be.
Mine goes in for service next week.

My mate changed the coil spring on his car last week, £48 for parts, I thinks it's a Citroen. It's the labour thats the killer with garages.

Thank goodness you had an emergency fund to pay for repairs!
Glad its all sorted and like you said, it could have happened whilst out and about.

I've bought 5 x 1000 Ltr IBCs which I'll be collecting next week. The plan is to first give them a good scrub and flush inside then a thick coating of black paint outside. I'm contemplating using two of them as the basis of an aquaponics set up, with the IBC's split 75%/25%, fish in the 75% and growing medium in the 25% section. Lots of intertube videos to watch before I make the first step.
I'm then left with three, so one for another 1000 litres of rainwater storage and then i'm thinking I'll split the remaining two 66/33 or 75/25 to make raised beds for potatoes and carrots.
Still open to ideas, so if anyone has any advice I'm all ears.

I think for the rain water storage I would use 2 stacked as once you have one taking up floor space another on top isn't going to take anymore
Feed the water into the top one as a first flush to let any crap settle then take an outlet right near the top to feed the bottom one for drinking water
Top one can be for plants, washing etc and when there gets to be a bit of crap in the bottom a quick opening of the valve should flush a good chunk out

Why use rain water ? You can top it up with good old tap water surely, that way you don't need to purify it. Am I missing something.Briggs 2.0 wrote:I've bought 5 x 1000 Ltr IBCs which I'll be collecting next week.
