Amazon Vs Amazon

Post by BallooTheBear »

Good Day All!

You may or may not be aware that the world sees Britain as elitist snobs (among other things), as such we are punished in various ways mainly financial. For example holidays, two years ago the good lady and myself went to Ibiza (old town) for two weeks. Booking it through a Romanian web site (as that is where my wife comes from) saved us nearly £400!!! for the same exact package holiday.

Also, If you would like to gain your HGV class 1 (assuming you only have a car licence) from start to finish you are looking at just shy of £4000. (I know I've done it!) In the eastern block of Europe, not only can you gain your C+E for one tenth the price (£400) but you also get your PSV thrown in too. And it is the same EU driving licence you and I have.... My friend Cristian went home for a two week holiday and did it!! IN TWO WEEKS!!

My point being,

I have just purchased:-

1/ Gerber Diesel Multitool, EUR 69.00 / £57.93 (£130+ in uk)

2/ Gerber LMF Infantry II, EUR 108.00 / £87.20 (£180+ in uk)

Both of these were purchased from http://www.amazon.de and saved me nearly £130 on two items

You can log in using your Amazon.co.uk account details. If you are unsure of any pages, as it is in German, use google translate. My items include tax, commission and delivery and I will
have them by January 6 - ish.

I am astonished with the European Union, what a load of old tosh! Everyone gets the benefits of being British, yet the British do not get the benefits of the EU!?

This is not fair! any who, this is not a political forum...

I hope this has been useful if you did not know

P.S It is the same story for Tents, Sleeping bags, Camping equipment, Back packs, Tools, etc... etc... etc...

That is ridiculous, I've used German suppliers before because they came out cheaper, but hadn't thought to look at Amazon.de.
I have been using the ridiculously named http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/ lately, which goes to show what sort of price hiking Amazon get up to in the approach to the holidays. Post the link in there and it shows you the graphed price history for the item, means you can see through "Black Friday" as 90% of their lightning deals were above a previously listed low price.

I've never ever heard anyone anywhere in the world calling brits for elitist snobs, for if that were the case that you are being punished, how come everything here in Sweden cost a bundle more than it does on your island? Are we even worse elitist snobs?

I rather think that the problem has to do with taxation of companies in different countries and things like the warranty period the seller have to have according to the law. Sweden has one of the world's best social security systems and we have to get the money for that from somewhere, therefore we have very high taxes on everything.

That my friend is probably the most useful link I've seen in a very long time :D :D Thankyou.

I've actually bought stuff from other European Amazon sites before, often a lot cheaper than the UK, even with the extra post costs.

Don't forget Amazon in France, Italy and the Netherlands as well Germany.

http://www.amazon.fr/
http://www.amazon.it/
http://www.amazon.nl/

If you use Google Chrome web browser it'll give you a rough translation of each site.

I tend to avoid Amazon.com (US Site) because I've been hit with VAT and import taxes before.

Your google foo is weak grasshopper :D , the Gerber Dieasal is £59 on Amazon.co.uk http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gerber-22-41545 ... B000EDVU2K or £50 for the SS http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gerber-3097-Die ... ber+Diesel and the LMF is £99 at Heinie Haynes..........possibly cheaper but I only seached for a minute....

But do agree with you to an extent , I use amazon .de and .fr often as big savings can be made...........

but I dont think its a big conspiracy , some things are cheaper or more expensive in different countries/shops is all....

Think a fair bit of it is down to exchange rates, I recently bought an outdoor research helium bivy, it worked out saving me nearly twenty quid buying it from an eBay USA store and paying the shipping than if I'd bought it on Amazon UK, just shows how important it is to shop around and not to exclude international sellers.

Had a scout around Amazon after reading this as i was after a Gerber Bear Grylls Hatchet which is over £50 in Go outdoors and cheapest online UK based i could find was just over £40

Cant remember how much Amazon.de was but i actually found the cheapest price on ebay.de including postage it came to around £34 and was here in about 3 days

Quite impressed with it although the sheath could be better designed as i managed to slip and give myself a nice cut on the blade across the end of my little finger while getting it out as it is razor sharp

Have been looking around for other things i am after and looks like the all american 21 quart pressure canner will be coming over from the states once i have a little spare in paypal as it is about a third of the price of UK sites selling it even accounting for postage and any duty etc
