What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.
Re: What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.
I got 12lb short dated butter cheap from work so I made a small batch of Ghee. It turned out really well so I think I'll make more.

Re: Water meter, 'They' want to put one in (supposedly with no obligation to pay the metered cost). Problem is we're a party-main so I don't know how they're planning on doing it.
We're not keen either.

Less and has a more grainy texture but melts quicker and doesn't burn like butter. Odd stuff, but good stuff!

The water authority told us we must have it done (government rules .... blah blah) and sent a guy around to make arrangements. When he arrived, I explained the situation...he took a look around and promptly said "it aint going to happen !!!"
Evidently, it would cost the water authority far too much to make the necessary changes required to install meters, and so I, and the all the others, continue exactly as before.

Our BOBs doubled in size today now that I finally added the rations! Trouble is they're less hideable than before, as they won't fit in the bureaux anymore
I'll have to put some coat hooks up under the stairs!

Heads up for Aldi on Thursday, 12 litre stockpot for £17.99. I've been putting off canning tomatoes as I didn't fancy doing in 3 or 4 batches over 3 or 4 days so have been stocking up the freezer with tomato deals and this will be just perfect to do in one hit, I can then also test out the Kenwood fruit press which I will review as per Brambles request. If I remember I will take photo's of the proceedings too.

I've been trying out my new GHB/EDC and I've hit a few minor snags, one is my head torch is turning itself on in the top pocket of the bag. Strange when I've had it in the same place in a smaller bag for ages with no problems (and it doesn't seem faulty) and the second issue was getting at my field dressing quickly with one hand, so a minor rethink and shuffle around of stuff seems in order.
Year ago the done thing was to have the dressing taped to the shoulder strap of the Bergan, but that doesn't work these days, last time I went through a military security check they had a wobbler and thought it was explosive ( it was US military) so that ideas kippered for now.

My new year resolution was to do small prep projects at the weekend - storage, research, whatever. It's working! Rearranged the porch storage (not that you can tell as you walk by), found my way clear with bookshelf storage, and a research project is now finished, so I'll be able to look at all the information and act on it - ways of harvesting aloe vera plants! Most people talk about cutting a leaf and putting it onto a burn, but I've discovered all sorts of things - tinctures, smoothies and what not. Now I've gathered it together, I'll read it properly
and let people know the important bits, because its really easy to grow as a houseplant, and I think its a good prep, especially with the NHS coming under such pressure.

Been a big fan of Urid Dal white lentils for "bread" making (they are used in India to make popadum and make a nice waffel) Discovered that if I grind it and then soak it overnight first before adding the baking powder and other ingredients, the waffels I make a brilliant.
Also got an air pressure oil sprayer to use instead of a cooking spray as cooking sprays disintegrate the surface of non stick pans (so it is said). This makes cooking my lentil and chickpea flour based pancakes much easier too.
Chickpea flour pancakes / crepes are fantastic on a budget to make wraps and are a cheap healthy protein source food in their own right.
