I'm pretty sure there is an led version, maybe the one you've found is old stock? Just checked and there is an led version, they seem to be running around £12-15 though.munchh wrote:http://www.millets.co.uk/equipment/1453 ... #read_more

Yes i have found the LED version for sale too, but mine is probly 15 years old mabie more?
There is a conversion kit for the maglite mini, i am hoping i can find a conversion for the solitaire, all i can find are crazy youtube scientists doing "easy" conversions that are a bit nuts.

Re: Best/favorite EDC torch?
I've got one of the old solitares and it doesn't give a lot of light, it was on my key ring for years, but then I found another small led torch that was a lot brighter and dumped the solitare, it's on my spare car keys now I think.
They are well made but you'd struggle to find your way about with one at night if I'm honest. Good in their day but they fall well short of the modern cheap leds like the £2 crees off ebay which give a load of light.
I've not tried the new led solitare, I would expect them to be a lot better, but personally for £20 I'd get something else.

Re: Best/favorite EDC torch?
Ive been seeing that some of these torches come with what they call "batons" or defusers so they can be used as a lamp to light a small room/tent instead of a torch.
I just happened to see my Ti3 sitting on my desk next to a Nerf Mega dart!
So with a bit of chopping and super glue.....
On medium mode
Then it got me thinking, what foam type stuff do i have....
If you are going to try it, it needs to be that high density stuff and if you drill a hole into it it works best if there is a cavity in front of the lense, i drilled into that white one to just before the end and only put the torch in a bit.
Ive made it even more useful.

Re: Best/favorite EDC torch?
Funnily enough I was looking at a diffuser torch the other day, didn't buy it but I am half tempted. It's a Klarus FL1A, no proper beam as such but it does have a low power mode, red, green and UV leds, strobe and sos modes, and works off a single AA battery, was about £25 I think. Theres a few reviews on youtube.

agreed- these torches are qualityForgeCorvus wrote:http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007 ... ge_o02_s00
I've had a couple of these since October 2014 and use them as my EDC (one lives in my work jeans, the other with my other clothes)
The pocket clips are a bit wappy.
However they don't seem to use any power as the batteries last for ages.
The 'throw' of light is massive, I've lit up a clearing the size of about half a football pitch well enough for someone at the far end to find the end of their tent zip.
You select 'flood' or 'spot' by sliding the end forwards or back and the lens focuses the output, because of this the 'spot' is square
All in all a good little torch for under two notes..... And they're currently 3p cheaper then I paid
