New one is a .243
I also have a .303 sporter.

In the past I have had .308, .223, 7mm rem mag and 45-70 (that was a fun rifle) but never used a 270. Its on my list to try out one day.

I need to get the barrell threaded on the 243 for a moderator. Currently makes quite a bang when you pull the trigger!

I have built up an accurate load for the 303 using 150gr bullets but need to do the same with the 243. Looking at something in the 85gr area.

Its nice to be able to tailor the rounds to the rifle plus I find reloading quite theraputic.

What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.

I will be putting in for a variation to add a .243 soon, there is a brand new rifle, scope and moderator sat waiting in my dads gun cabinet for me as soon as I get it added onto my fac. He is hoping to be well enough to use it a few more times but his chemo has knocked the crap out of him and it's looking like he won't be using it much more.

The moderator on my .270 has taken the edge off the shot a lot but not as much as I was expecting.

Not done much prepping this week but have ordered a Berkey water filter, just sat waiting for that to arrive, then I will have to stick a couple of filter elements in the to buy list every couple of months until I have a couple of spare sets

Not much except eating my way through supplies, I have been unwell since before xmas, finally landing in hospital in january. Am now waiting for an op,sometime in the next 3-4 weeks.

Thats not exactly why I'm eating my preps and not replacing them. I have been expecting to get moved out of my home for sometime as my landlord died and once his relatives get probate on the will, they'll be selling up. So I was being careful about the type of stuff I bought as it may well end up in a container. The main reason I'm not bothering is my family, over the years they've varied from total critisism to vague acceptance, never helping or encouraging.

I now find myself in the position that my health is such that many of the things I would like to do, gardening included, vary between very hard to impossible.
I also don't expect I would last particularily long in a shtf situation and without the nhs and the pharmicist at my back life would be painful and tough fairly quickly, there is a limit to the meds I can stockpile and one needs regular blood checkups, which wouldn't happen. so I have in reality been stockpiling for my family and not me.

Given how difficult my life has become and some days the black dog wins and i see no point in anything (rare and short lived, i'm not really the depressive type, more a glass half full). I.ve decided that - Now - Today- I am going to become selfish and look after me more than everyone else, they're all adults now, time to make their own decisions.

So why eat/use stores? An empty house is easier to keep, so decluttering, giving away, throwing out and using up stuff to minimise stuff that needs cleaned and ultimately moved. It saves me having to go shopping. It points out to others in the household that if they want fresh food - go buy it - if not theres plenty tinned/dries/frozen, your maid servant has retired, do it yourself.

There are lots of things that I wanted to do once I had freedom from being a housewife ie once they'd all left home, the list has been seriously curtailed so before it's wiped out - sorry family your on your own, I.ve tried to tell you to prepare, it's now up to you. I'm unlikely to survive anyway so I'm living today.

I've just read that through and I haven't put my thoughts down very well, I seem like a really hard case, not too pleasant but thats not what I meant, what I'm trying to say is don't forget to live today and you can't really prep for others, a box of tins is not real prepping.

Hear Hear !

As I have got older I have learnt to stop sweating the small stuff and when it comes to the really big stuff....well it's probably gonna be outta my hands anyway.
Over the years I have made a collection of useful stuff for emergencies. But also got rid of many things that might be useful, but just took to much of my time/effort/money, to maintain.

I buy foodstuff in bulk, because it saves me money and it means I don't have to bother to shop when I have better things to do.
And these days I do have better things to do. In the last few years I have; signed up for/attended/made more effort to get out and about to meetings/courses/lectures ...or just plain sitting in the sun watching the wildlife, than I have ever done before.

If one day Doomsday decides to put in an appearance then, so be it....but we only get so many trips around the sun, and need to remember to enjoy today

I hope the 'black dog' puts in less and less appearances Izzy, Enjoy your retirement from the 'maid' service, there's more to life as I'm sure you know.

Izzy, I'm glad you wrote what you did, but I'm sorry you're going through such times :( I've had chronic illness these last few years, nothing acute or life threatening, but the quality of my life has really changed, for the worse. For me, it was important to up my preps, actually, so that I had lots of storecupboard food in, didn't have to think about it, and didn't have to expose myself to too many infections. And my social life collapsed, as I haven't been well enough to travel - I can make it to my sister's and back, 10 miles on the bus, if I only stay a few hours.

I do seem to have turned a corner this month, though - I do 30 - 40 mins gardening, about twice a week, which is actually just pruning shrubs and trees, and digging up all the bramble roots that rooted while I couldn't do anything in the garden. Today, for the first time in about two years, I actually reached the back of the border in one spot (the garden's only 35' long, nothing special) and 50% of the brambles along that three feet of fencing have gone. That felt good. I'm definitely getting my strength back as long as I'm pottering about at home, I still get really wiped out if I travel. I think that will get better, though.

I too am decluttering - I'll retire this year, and I know I can't afford to live in this house until the state pension kicks in, but nor am I prepared to carry on doing the minimal amount of work I do, about 8 hours a week, sacrificing 99% of my energy and interests to work. So I declutter because I'm going to have to move again, and because my life is important to me - as Piglet says, we only get so many trips around the sun (I love that way of putting it!). I think its crucial to become "selfish" in that way. I wish I'd become more selfish earlier on - if I'd retired from this job six years ago, and downsized and found a less stressful job, I think my health wouldn't have suffered as much. Hindsight is glorious, though.

Piglet, loving the sound of wildlife watching and the meetings and courses - thats what I plan to go back to, when my energy returns.

Here's to health!

I think thats a great way to put it too, the thing to remember also is how many trips is a secret.

Prepping is a lifestyle, but you shouldn't be so busy getting set for the future that you miss out on today.

Izzy: Family can be both the best part of your life and the biggest PITA in your life... Often at the same time
But for now I'll give you this (its helped me out of the black pit a few times)
" Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
The Courage the change the things I can
And the Wisdom to know the difference"

This week I've added a two month supply of dry dog food to our food storage. The best before date is July 2017 so I've added a reminder to my calendar to rotate it this time next year and added it to my food list to keep track of what I have.

Would be interesting to hear what other preps people have made for their pets.

His princessness is better prepped than we are. I buy Cat food and litter in bulk anyway so he always had a good supply of each and it's rotated as I use it. He also has his own HOB (Hotel Bag)

We usually have a couple of months food for the dog as we buy the 15 kilo bags a few at a time
