Ive decided against the MH mostly due to cost and the discovery of the whole mylar bag/oxy absorber technique - knew the US was experiencing issues and was wondering if they would make their way over here - well seems now they have ...Just WHO exactly has made this order in the UK and what do they know, that we'll be in Libya for years perhaps?! I quote message received yesterday from B-Prep.co.uk;
"I am letting all of my customers know the latest news on shipping times for Mountain House Big Tins (as updated on the B-PREP website):
IMPORTANT NOTICE RE: MOUNTAIN HOUSE BIG TINS - PLEASE READ !!!
I have been advised by MOUNTAIN HOUSE that as of March 23rd, 2011, "all un-allocated stock of Mountain House Big Tins have been taken off the market by an order by an emergency services procurement company responding to recent natural disasters and current military activities. This means that an anticipated 'in-stock' date for fulfilling any orders would be a minimum of six weeks".
What this means is that due to operations in Japan and Libya, all existing stock of MH Big Tins (manufactured and tinned, sitting in warehouses, un-bought) has been requisitioned, and MH is busy manufacturing new stock.
What that means to us (and I mean you, dear customers and members) is that if you place a firm order today, you WILL get your food shipped to you, but current lead times for orders to be shipped are now 6-8 weeks, instead of 1 week as it has been until now. I've been expecting this, if something major happened (as 2 major events have happened in the last three weeks). Waiting times for orders in the US have been about 6 months for the last year, where storing food is a much more widely accepted practice, and so there is higher demand.
I strongly advise anyone who is considering storing up long-term supplies (Big Tins, 30-year shelf life) to start getting your orders in NOW, before prices go up, wait-times increase, or other major events occur. After all, you are going to be storing it anyway. Current fulfillment times for UK are now 6-8 weeks. This could be a 'spike', and fulfillment times may go back down in a few months - but I wouldn't count on it.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS INFORMATION ONLY APPLIES TO MOUNTAIN HOUSE BIG TINS. THE SINGLE AND SERVES 2 PACKS ARE STILL SHIPPING WITHIN ONE WEEK. KATADYN EMERGENCY FOODS REMAIN A 2-WEEK DELIVERY TIME, SHIPPING FROM GERMANY."

Are there any other sites selling similar stuff Adele?
Re: Mountain House
I know FEMA asked for quotes in dec for millions of meals < as well as blankets and under water body bags > this was before japan???? I post because I wonder If it would be possible to make a lypalisation unit basicaly a freezer operating under a vacuum of -1 atmosphere with fans to draw off the cooling vapor
I also wondered about applying to a small firm to do a limited run of food cooked up by a no of people wanting to chip in < a factory in grimsby thet did chinese dry freeze meals has just shut down about a year ago> there is a lot of demand that may fall off some what after 2012 I think it would be definatly usfull to risk investing in a vacuum pump and parts even a small one..
