My New BOL/Allotment Diary
Re: My New BOL/Allotment Diary
He's back! Hurray
Re: My New BOL/Allotment Diary
Best news ever arrived in the post just now.... I have been offered a allotment, so close to my home I could almost wave at it if I tried hard!!! Fit to burst here
I am so excited called Mr D to tell him (interrupting his meeting, oops) he is pleased as punch too.
Can go to see it on Saturday afternoon so hoping it's not in too bad a state. I'm so glad I chased up last week.
Now I can start to plan!! Did I mention how excited I am?!

Great news! I love allotments.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

This may be spurious advice, but can I recommend John Harrison's two books Veg Growing month-by-month, and The Essential Allotment Guide? No connection to author, but I think of all my books these are the most accessible and useful for a novice. His section on getting to grips with a new-to-you allotment is very good.

Couldn't agree with these recommendations more. John Harrisons books are the only ones I have found that deal specifically with allotments and the unique problems you will come across as an allotmenteer.featherstick wrote:Decaff wrote:Thanks everyone, I'm hoping I can find my green fingers and grow, grow, grow!

Thank you both for this information, I will make sure to get copies of these. Do you use an allotment planner?? Is there such a thing? Would it help to keep track of what is where for rotational purposes??Brambles wrote:Couldn't agree with these recommendations more. Sorry, so many questions but it's been decades since I had any outside space and I'm feeling rather lost
