Found: Pouch for Baofeng UV5R Radio

Hi guys,

I'm not the seller or linked to the seller in any way except for the fact I bought 2 of these and they arrived today.

Great price, great quality. I cannot find the kit serial number thingy and I'm not sure what the original use of these were but am still very happy.

Inside the pouch contains a handy strap which will pull/push up the radio when you pull it. Holds the radio with the extended 6xAA battery box with a space left for other small bits. Maybe a push to store the normal battery and extended battery without removing the belt clip first. Has the waterproof coating on the inside.

No water drain hole in the bottom, not sure if that is good or bad as the whole radio is covered with only the antenna poking through 1 side (I don't know why but am always concerned about water entering in through the drainage hole on my pouches).

That does look a fine pouch for the UV-5R and I may have a punt myself for a few of them.
My family are well fixed for UV-5Rs but I'm the only amateur licencee in our crew thus far.
I love the solid fasteners on the back and the DPM suits most my/our bug-out clothing
The UV-5R is not all that waterproof so I would try and get a drain in the bottom of the pouch if I could.
Do you use the standard UV-5R battery or have you bought the extended life battery for the little beastie.
If you are thinking of going with the extended life battery the hight of your radio to the top of the volume knob will be 150 mm tight.
I have a SAAV with a pouch either side of the wide padded shoulder strap which is going to be used for the exact same thing when I have to haul gear if a bug out scenario had me heading into our pre-arranged BOL.
All that said, it's a good looking ammo pouch that would seem to work well for a radio. Good find and I've bookmarked it

Is there much budge in the pouch? Or does the radio fit in there pretty snug? thinking about getting one of these.

These do look good, I might invest in a couple for myself.

One alternative idea, which may seem counter intuitive but hear me out, is to use the MOLLE straps to mount this pouch in an inverted (upside down!) position.

Now this isn't as daft as you might first think - firstly, no need for a drainage hole (and the hassle of trying to fit a rivet), second, the bottom looks completely closed so rain would run down the sides and not (potentially) collect at the bottom of the pouch. Third, it closes with a pop stud AND Velcro so there's not much risk of it coming loose (you could also "dummy cord" it just in case) so, if you have the earpiece and PTT button, you'd never really have to remove it from the pouch when in the field.

Anyway, that's just my opinion, others may disagree!

It's snug in the fact that shaking the pouch it doesn't really budge. But it's not tight fit either. What I also like about it is that you get some extra storage space as well. I was using a flashbang grenade pouch before. Admitedly a smaller, tighter fit (even with the extended batt) and lighter but it was in desert camo and the material is al lot thinner, making me think buttons could be accidentally pressed more easily

That's a good idea hanging the pouch upside down. I also use the long naogoya antenna on mine so I think some sort of flexible adapter so the antenna can point upwards again would be needed.
