Good day people
Right, so, I'm here to put the record straight and make an apology to the admin team.
I initially signed up a short time again and jumped straight into asking questions and didn't take the time to introduce myself.
Admin assumed I was promoting a business and rightly so it did look fishy, however I was simply jumping the gun a little. So guys, I am sorry and here I am with tail somewhere around my legs.
My name is Craig, and I hail from Scotland. Somewhere up by Perthshire way. Long story short, im early 30s, have been a keen adventurer type since I was a lad, and enjoy hiking to remote areas of Scotland to keep skills and fitness up. As for the prepping side, this has came naturally to accompany the camping side of things and has been built on as a foundation from there. All in all I'm confident I could survive most short term events (exc. Zombies, (and maybe Triffids) - figure it would be hard going so if you cant beat them join the winning side).
I wont bore you with my kit list, as its nothing special but what I need for both hiking and a grab-and-go scenario.
Few pictures and basic info:
Kit weight is approx. 13.5kg
Including, Sleeping bag, Self Inflating Matt, Coleman Cobra 2 tent, The rucksack and 2.5kg of food.
So there is scope for weight saving if needed.
Obviously there is much more to the contains than I would bore you with but a few worthwhile notes are the Bahco Folding Saw (this is incredible for processing firewood) and the Coleman Tent which is almost a perfect tent for my needs.
Another quick mention is the Fire Kit
I particularly like carrying some shredded bicycle tyre and despite toxic fumes takes a light even when soaking wet.
Anyways thank you for an amazing resource of information and thank you for all the tips I have learned reading the user forums. Much appreciated.
All the best
Craig

Fire kit.....where's the pencil sharpener?
Vicks vaporub? Have you tried that, it's slow to get going but when it's melted up a bit it's like rocket fuel.

Never heard of that one before?, will give it a bash next time I have the flu!
So far I've only used the classic cotton wool and petroleum jelly trick.
Ha these are toffee apple sticks - poke one through the petroleum wool and jam it into firm ground.
This makes an excellent base for starting a small fire.
Came up with the idea by chance one year the stove packed in and everything else was wet. Done the trick nicely.

Another good one for firelighting in the wet is the flat cotton wool pads, melt some tea lights, (in an old saucepan, you'll never get it out again, and don't get it too hot or it'll ignite) then dip the pads into it, swish them about for a bit (I use chopsticks) making sure they're well coated then take them out and let the wax set, you can keep a load of them in a ziplock bag because they're flat, and when you want to use one just tear it leaving a fluffy edge and it'll light nicely and burn for ages, probably only take a quarter of one to get a fire going but bear in mind they're not waterproofed as well when they're torn, hence the ziplock bag.THRCNBEONLY1 wrote:Never heard of that one before?, will give it a bash next time I have the flu!

You can buy something similar, I forget the name of them but they're orange and come in a tin, but making your own is much cheaper.

Welcome! Thrn ..... what do we call you?
I'm here on a day when I feel good because I've had enough sleep
so what I *really* want to know is this: will your Bahco Folding Saw kill triffids?
Sorry, its irresistible! John Wyndham is in my brain for good now (tho not in a zombie way) ...
Seriously, so many people mention the Coleman tents, they must be doing something right. I'll have to have a closer look at them.
