Boots own alliance which is the biggest wholesaler in UK. It used to be uni chem then bought by boots. Boots will generally only stock from the alliance wholesaler whereas small chain pharmacies will buy from several suppliers. If it is not available from one they have several others to try. It may be slightly more expensive but they will get you what you need if they are a decent pharmacy!

Boots staff may genuinely think it has been discontinued because it is no longer available on their alliance wholesale platform. If it is not available they will try to sell you an alternative. Smile and go find yourself a small pharmacy and they will be happy to look at their list of suppliers!
