What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.
Re: What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.
Deiced that it was time to redo the 60 second, and get home bags. Winter clothes changed for Summer and food dates checked and are all ok surprising amount of breakfast biscuits in the GHB but as they don't need heating up or the addition of hot water I can justify them Found out that I had to many travel toothbrushes and that I need to redo my first aid kits. Thinking of getting one of those travel kettles that I can plug into the car to make a cup of tea with as I no longer have my camping gear in the car.

I wouldn't bother had been discussed before , better to pack that stove and water again ,or fill a flask each end of your journey . They just arn't that good.junmist wrote:. got myself a proper electric bike so that I can carry on Living Car Free and still have travel options. Even though I got it on finance, it will still work out cheaper than car tax an insurance and the range on this beast is pretty impressive (up to 60 miles).
However I am still using my regular mountain bike for my exercises and most around town stuff.
So for me, the whole living car free thing is a combination between
1) mountain bike for most things locally and exercise
2) sinclair A-Bike for hopping between a bus stop an my destination (really just a kiddy scooter made road legal with the inclusion of pedals)
3) electric bike for cruising the countryside and getting further afield.

Agreed on the uselessness of present day travel kettles - we bought several as a family a few years ago, we took over a small holiday centre in France for a wedding. All the ones bought at the time (in 2012) burnt out. Mine, which I bought in about 1995, is still going - in fact, I use it every day

Bought myself an air rifle to do some garden target shooting and get rid of a current plague of pigeons. Nothing special, just a Remington Express .177 but it will get me started. Also spent a couple of hours working on my Faraday box. The theory is sound so it's a good gamble I think.

Remington express is a great starter air rifle , full up 12ft /lbs , I have one myself , had a few rabbits, a wood pigeon, and a pile of crows , now on the lookout for a pcp 10 shot as the single shot reload isn't quick enough .whenfires wrote:Bought myself an air rifle to do some garden target shooting and get rid of a current plague of pigeons. Just repaired a small tear and a missing zip on a Softie 12 sleeping system from a Surplus store.
£17.50 all in for a £120 bag Result,

I quite like the idea of the PCP air rifles but post-SHTF, I presume you'd need a compressor/generator to re-charge?poppypiesdad wrote:Remington express is a great starter air rifle , full up 12ft /lbs , I have one myself , had a few rabbits, a wood pigeon, and a pile of crows , now on the lookout for a pcp 10 shot as the single shot reload isn't quick enough .whenfires wrote:Bought myself an air rifle to do some garden target shooting and get rid of a current plague of pigeons. No you can use a stirrup pump to charge it depending on model 800 strokes to put it up to full pressure , but yes a heavy duty compressor , and a dive bottle ( I have a 10 liter for the wee ones pistol )I use the local dive center ,£5 a fill , but looking at oxygen free nitrogen cylinders that we use for work (air con ) £14 a fill .
