New Member From Doncaster

Post by LJM1310 »

Hi all,

My name is Lewis, i'm 22 and i'm from Balby, Doncaster. I have been noticing the difference in the world for a few years and i have been trying to get together a plan for situations such as economic collapse, EMP, energy crisis and TEOTWAWKI.

I believe everybody should have a plan of action whether its bug in or bug out, survival is number one priority. most people just hit the deer in the headlights stage and don't get past there, i am not one to attain a normalcy bias. I have a BOB that i am slowly developing and i am constructing a BOR, i also carry an effective EDC which i use on a daily basis for personal use and to help others.

My first intention of developing a survival plan was after i watched Dawn of the Dead when i was 13; i suddenly change and started to develop a prepper mindset, i bought the Max Brooks books and read them through and through. With this my friends and I used to camp out and practice clearing areas of forest around Steetly Quarry and build fires even in harsh weather. I have also developed basic skills such as hunting and preparing game and foraging (i used the SAS survival guide for help with this). Other than that i chose a career in engineering, i am a fully qualified welder with coding but i also have other trade skills such as bricklaying, plastering, joinery (most skills i use around the house and at work). I have developed myself a good knowledge of mechanics through my passion for cars, i can fix pretty much any car and repair and replace any part.

I now have a family with my partner, we have a toddler and a baby. My partner isn't on board but she likes camping and walking so i'm trying to get her to develop some skills. My oldest already knows how to light a fire and is very good at helping with cooking.

So that is an overview on me and my life in prepping, thank you all for accepting me into your community and i give my gratitude in advance for the help and advice that you post and have posted on this forum.

Cheers

Lewis

Welcome! Sounds like you're doing really well already - I've been concerned personally with a lot of house maintenance recently, security too, how are you in those areas?

ETA - water too, in case of interruption of supply, even a burst water main can do it, specially with babies and toddlers.

Thank you everybody for your kind welcome.

Arzosah, home maintainance is quite scary before you get the confidence to try anything; youtube is the best place for how to videos and tips for things such as plumbing and electrical wiring. With my career as a welder and my trade as a master engineer, it comes with the skill to deal with electrical things such as equipment and 1st and 3rd phase wiring therefore im ok with that but plumbing, i wasnt so confident about it at first however i needed my boiler replacing and i didnt have the cash to pay somebody so i bought a new boiler from b&Q and fitted it myself (took me 7 hours but i got there and now we have hot water and heating on demand)

its just a case of trying (if at first you dont succeed, keep trying), for me prepping and survival is an everyday thing even though there are no immediate threats in my lifestyle. you can prep and practice all you want but when it comes to that final hour of civilization and you know the world is going to collapse, its your ability to get your head together and think about what your doing and not just adopt a normalcy bias that matters.

i find (IMO) that if you try and get yourself into a non major situation that will need control over your mind and the ability to to keep calm, then figure how you can sort the situation out effectively. this is good practice for now, along with going off and camping to practice using your equipment.

your question about water- i have two water butts that are self filtrating and they can hold 80 gallons of water each, more than enough water to last me for at least a month or even two months, i suggest you invest in the latter. but its all mish mash when the NHS says you need to give the babies clean fresh water (although on a daily basis i give my children fresh clean water) it doesn't harm them to give them just bottled water.

I hope i have answered your question.

Thank you Guys

Welcome.

New here myself.

There's a wealth of information and links on here that I've found in the last few days of reading, some I've already lost but can search for again.

It's well worth reading thru a few pages for peaoples lists and ideas.

Good luck

Welcome to you both, I mostly look at stuff on here on my laptop and have a folder that I copy and paste stuff to if I think its going to be useful. Maybe a bit trickier on phones (or maybe I'm a bit stoopid :) ), anyway I hope you guys find plenty of stuff to help, I have.
