Hi, I have some buddlea / buddleja that I'm thinking of digging out (sorry butterflies, but there is loads in our street and I need the space), but I have heard of it being used as kindling, does anyone do this? If so it might be worth keeping as a fuel as it is so prolific.
I also came across a reference to brewing the flowers into a soporific medicine, anyone know about this?

Buddlea - worth growing for kindling?
The last taboo is the myth of civilisation. It is built upon the stories we have constructed about our genius, our indestructibility, our manifest destiny as a chosen species. - The Dark Mountain Project Manifesto http://dark-mountain.net/about/manifesto/
Re: Buddlea - worth growing for kindling?
PFAF says that no medical or edible uses are known http://www.pfaf.org/user/Plant.aspx?Lat ... ia+davidii
though at least it also says "no known hazards". And it mentions dyes made from the flowers, leaves and stems combined.
WebMD doesn't refer to it
and the RHS doesn't have anything to say either.
I certainly think it *could* be used as kindling, as you say its extremely prolific.

Get rid. It's a thug in a garden, it will grow on rubble or out of walls, there are other things for butterflies to eat.

Great minds just cut mine down ready to dig it up and have kept the larger twigs/brunches for the chimnea I'm also going to try the forsythia plant that I am trying to tame.

As said it grows pretty much anywhere so no real need to cultivate your own , just forage for your kindling.
