Bugging Out in Kent

Post by fabian0216 »

Hi all,

I'm a new member to this site but have been prepping on and off for the past 3 years. Like many people, I stumbled across Prepping and Bushcraft via Youtube and liked what I saw. Most of the channels I watched seemed divided on what action they would take during an SHTF scenario, hunker down or bugout!!?

My question is where is the best place to bugout in Kent? and more broadly, what makes a good place to use as location.

Happy to help, here's the Grid Reference: OS Grid ref: TQ715336.

EDIT: Oh, bugger, now everyone knows. Sorry, my bad. Damn you, Internet.

My question is, why do you feel the need to bug out, and do you think you'd be on your own in your chosen location, considering a large proportion of the population of Kent may be doing the same?

There's a lot of interesting reading on here on the bug in/bug out debate. Enjoy!

Bugging out in Britain is hard. We're so densely populated, and everything is owned by someone. Especially if you're trying to "Bug local" in the South East. Bugging out has its own challenges, even in the idealised "Vast wilderness in which to disappear" that the RightPondians have on their doorsteps. Bugging in is probably a better option in the majority of scenarios. But really, if you're bugging out, you have to have your destination set up beforehand. At home you'll have your food stocks; if you bug out you'll have, at worst, what you can carry, and at best, what your vehicle can carry, unless you're bugging out to a "second home".

So you need to find a place where you can acquire a second home, preferably within walking distance, because the civil disruption that makes you want to bug out will probably make any form of transport other than Shanks' Mare problematic (that's what your BoB is for; it's not a seed case for rebuilding civilised living with). Then you have to stock it for SHTF scenarios as if it's your home. Not a small project.
