long term storage of quinoa

Post by Allycat »

Apologies if this has been asked before - had a quick look on search but didnt really answer my question! Has anyone had any experience or recommendations regarding the long term storage of quinoa?

As a bit of background I like to to store and rotate some tin stuff, I like to grow stuff but have limited space and I have stashed away in mylar bags some stuff in case there is a real SHTF scenario - I dont really expect anything but just in case, so this is stuff I can pack away and forget about for long periods. Now I know quinoa is a great source of amino acids and the such but do these perish even in the absence of oxegen? I've googled a bit but not coming up with any credible answers.

Any advice gratefully received :D

Best place to store quinoa is in the bin!

Only my opinion, of course.

I imagine like any other grain - freeze to kill bugs, pack in mylar with oxygen absorbers. No idea about amino acids but they must be tough, they survived interstellar travel to start life on earth.

Quinoa is okay mixed in with rice, bulgar wheat or cous cous, not too keen on eating it on its own though!

I would suggest same as featherstick, freeze to kill bugs, pack in mylar or jars with oxygen absorbers and store in cool place.

I use it in soups and stews to boost the nutritional value - long term vegetarianism makes you a bit more creative about about things like that. I do agree its not great on its own  Just curious about how nutritionally sound it would be after say 8-10 years of storage in mylar and cant seem to get that info anywhere - thanks for your thoughts though :)
