Poundland stuff
Poundland stuff
I was in poundland today and they've got survival shelters for a £1, two space blankets for a £1, groundsheets for a quid as well, I didn't have time for a good look around but if your prepping on a budget it might be worth a look, I grabbed some space blankets and a shelter to try, don't know what they'll be like but I'll risk it for a quid.

My brother bought loads of their gear and as expected it is not very robust and quite easily broke but worth it for a quid a shot

Those blankets and shelters are ok for a quid. Well worth sticking them in your day bag and a few in your car.
I was up Scafell Pike the other day and a kid had fallen and couldn't walk back down - he was about half way up. They wrapped him in one of these blankets and it made perfect sense to do so until the air ambulance arrived. He would have been sweaty and warm, but then after stopping suddenly and lying there for a while he would have gotten cold from the inactivity. The blanket was a total winner. It also helped the helicopter to spot him.
I would not have liked to put an expensive blanket on him, he'd have snotted on it or something, you know what kids are like.

I love motorcycles like a fat guy loves cake. I also love cake.

The groundsheet looks about 7x4 foot (haven't measured it) and seems pretty sturdy for a vinel-ish sort of stuff, I'm wondering about sewing 3 together to make a sort of ... hmm "cheap" tarp (I'm of the tight wallet persuasion) Ok it's going to be crap compared to a proper tarp but I'm just experimenting and playing. And for £3 it's got to be worth a go.

I've got poundland plastic emergency ponchos everywhere, I vac pack them to save room and stop them getting holes in them before I need them, sure you'd look like a wally wearing one, but you'd be a dry wally!
I also like the pocket folding rucksacks they are selling at the minute, wouldn't want to put a huge amount of weight in one but they pack down very small, weigh nothing and you can get a fair amount of stuff in one and still keep your hands free unlike a shopping bag, not the strongest (so it seems, not knackered one yet though) but definitely worth a quid!

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

I like the aluminium foil trays and lids they sell, quite a few different shapes and sizes and very useful when out and about, with a disposable BBQ you can have a nice meal from home-made ready food, shepherds pie, spag bol, lasagne, anything in a sauce as long as it's been pre cooked the possibilities are endless, plus no carrying around of plates etc afterwards as everything goes in the bin.
Behind every great man is an even greater woman. She carried you, raised you and made you who you are.

Got to admit I've bought most if not all the bits and bobs already mentioned from this shop. Where I live and work I have access to 3 poundlands but have noticed this year they have a lot less range of "camping" gear then they used to.
Remember the good old days of the small stainless stele folding shovel or the led 3xAAA light bulb lantern?
One thing I have noticed is huge amounts of She-Pees...must be gunning for the fairer sex market?

There was a time when I was in hypervalue almost every day, yes half the stuff was rubbish but they were cheap and some of the kit was ok.
