Bugging out........kinda

Post by poppypiesdad »

Well we've up sticks and left the bricks and mortar behind . Off to the Scottish Borders awaiting the brit exit from the EU . Guns and claymores are the ready waiting for the English invasion.....

Or the wee one is competing on her pony this weekend and we're away with the horse box
The wife organised it

No petrol for the Genny
We've ran out of butane for the water heater , fridge and hob grill . We've plenty of horse fees and hay .......

And rose wine

Update as it goes

"Hay and Rose" - that would be a great title for a chic lit book about prepping ... I may nick it, actually

Enjoy foraging at Lidl  and we want to know how many rosettes happened your way :)

Follow on day 1

Lidl scavenger hunt provided us with some sustenance
Car park manoeuvres were interesting in a 18 ton 12m rigid but we coped
In store bakery was raided only a few double chocolate cookies were left . But we stocked up on Apple turnovers .
From there we were back to the camp site via a fuel to station. Gas and petrol topped up
Gas fridge amazing
Gas water heater put out 70°C water
Hob good , grill passable toast

Only downside the lager was warm .

Day 2

The horse has been sized up for the BBQ just in case
Fair results for the wee one
Communal dinner was a disaster obviously cooks were not use to catering 100 mouths so was a bit disappointed.

However the lager has cooled .

Torrential rain overnight lead to squishy ground conditions but glad we blocked the wheels off the ground so it was a easy drive off.
Took trip over the border . No guards on duty no passports or visas checked
Scouted various overnight parking areas but decided to head back home .

So the trip worked out few wee niggles . Next stop.the Highland show for 5 days .

It sounds like you had fun, could you post a few more details about blocking the wheels off the ground ? It would be useful to know how to park a large vehicle on wet grass without getting stuck.

The blocking thing does sound interesting :)

Do you have a chemical toilet, poppypiesdad? RV or camper? Any other tips?

Presumably the horse avoided the BBQ?

Blocking it's quite simple 300mm lenghts of 6x2 joist cuttings when we arrive we put them on the ground in front of the wheels at our chosen spot and drive onto them
It helps distribute the load out it also gives you an idea of how soft the ground is
If they sink in we roll the truck off and put more in
West also use the timber to run along to get going

Toilets a Thetford cassette type build into there shower cubical
All in one with a shower tray
The type fitted to caravans
With fold up sink

It's still custom build 18 ton MAN horsebox
