This weekend when the rain lets up, I`m setting snares for rabbits and arranging for a local with a gun to come try and get one of the young stags that keeps trying to get into my garden (this is legal afore anyone says so btw, crofting land laws :) )
And sorting through my bottling jars and rearranging the pantry. :)

Local 'ye olde we sell everything shoppe' had bags of Tilda long grain rice at 39p for 500g - so I cleared them out of that.

Sorted the garden out - mowed the lawn and put grass seed down where there are a few 'bald' patches. Planted some new potatoes, peppers, rocket and basil. Run out of pots now though. Will get some more next week so I can get some more stuff in the ground.

because it was mothers day I managed to persuade DH to take me to B&Q. He wont normally take me without a month of nagging. So stocked up on a load of seed and gardening equipment. plus wood to make some poly boxes for the veg. Then the family helped with some veg planting. So this week will be digging and sieving raised beds. Plus Father in law offered me all the veg off his alotment so will be freezing it before it rots :D

Took the mutt and went exploring the Exe Estuary yesterday. All accessable using public footpaths in a nature reserve starting 50 yards from my house. An amazing place and absolutely huge, you could hide the red army amongst the reed beds. Walked about 7 miles and other than the odd fisherman I saw no one at all. Apparently it is a world famous place for Bird Watching but I didn't see any one. If I ever had to leave my place on foot in an emergency, me and my tent would be heading that way. The only problem I can see is finding a source of fresh water, there are a few rivers and streams that empty into the estuary but they have travelled a long way through towns and villages to get there. I might have to invest in a more portable filter. The berkey is fine for home but a bit bulky to carry arround (its not heavy, just a bit bulky for a backpack) but I would still take it in an emergency.

Well - Tesco sent me the wrong corned beef (clearly a sign that I shouldn't be eating it! ). BUT, when I rang them up to tell them - as you do - they gave me a full refund, and I get to keep the stuff that they sent in the first place. RESULT!

So if there's a world-wide shortage of corned beef we all know who to blame then...
