Fire safety... You got suitable smoke detectors fitted?
Fire blanket in the kitchen
A decent size fire extinguisher on each floor and in the garage / shed?
When you go to bed where are your house keys? Can you unlock the door ?
How you plan on escaping if the fire comes to block the staircase?
Does the rest of the household know what to do?
Are the wheelie bins secure so no moron can put it against your front door and light it?
Is your car prepped for fire (well serviced with clean oil leak free engine bay). Cary a large enough extinguisher? The average 800g car extinguisher won't even put out a pint of spilt fuel..
So you come home and its burnt down.... Who is your home insurance with.. What's your policy number?
All well and good having plans to deal with fire and subsequent insurance claim, but prevention is much better than cure. Get your electrical system checked every few years, check your appliances (and don't buy the cheapest), don't overload sockets, ensure plugs are fitted with correct fuses, don't rely upon lots of extension cables. As regards lots of extinguishers, go for a decent smoke alarm and get out as quickly as possible - the toxic fumes from artificial fibres will kill you quicker than anything.
Oh, and as Nick used to say, sleep well.
