Peak trail poundland waterbottle ?

Post by sniper 55 »

I've bought a 500ml metal waterbottle from poundland, I'm wondering if anybody knows if the bottles are coated on the inside or if I can heat water in it. (with the top off obviously)

I have one that I keep bioethanol in, doesn't look coated but I would say the only way to know for absolute certain is to stick one on a heat source and heat it up, (empty, and you will probably ruin it so use a spare) any coating on it will either burn or visibly peel off, if it gets to the point that the bottle warps without any signs of a coating being present then you know they're not and it's only cost you a quid to find out.

I did try to find the company who make it (not poundland) but they probably only import it anyway and I drew a blank online.
I think your right Jamesey, looks like I'm going to have to pop in and buy another for a test, still it should be a laugh, and as you say it's only a quid even if it warps the bottle. I'll post the results when I've done it.

Would be good to know if you can boil in them so I'll be awaiting the results of your experiment with interest. I'm guessing the outside of them is painted rather than anodised so I would imagine that will burn off, but that wouldn't matter if it was an emergency and would only be cosmetic anyway.

Have to say that although the lid feels pretty cheap (hasn't leaked though) they're really not bad water bottles for a quid!

No way! That's rubbish, I would imagine they'll have Christmas stuff after that.
I'll pick a couple up next time I go if my local store has them, mine was still carrying the camping stuff last year even during Christmas so with a bit of luck they'll still have them and I'll do the experiment instead.

I tried another poundland yesterday, no joy there either, they said it's part of their seasonal range and wont be back in until spring.
