okeydokes- thanks.Deep Thinker wrote: Hi CovertColin - If you get it fitted and near wall then make sure they fit the proper fire/heat resistant boards on the wall. Real safety issue as if wall is board and wood frame and NOT the right fire/heat board the wooden beams have been known to char if fire to close . Having said that once all fitted then great .

Re: Winter prep..
I've done an extra big shop for dogs stuff incase snow does come early and added some extra tinned stuff to regular food order.
I'm thinking of getting some of those camping meals that cook themselves in a pouch too and try and stock up on things like crackers, corned beef, crisps..things I could eat cold that would keep too incase of power cuts.
Find Me A Gift.com do a big lightbulb on a rope that only takes a couple of batteries, it could be attached to my lazy daisy light in bedroom in case of powercut so can have some light and be easier to stay warmer in bed. I've got a camping lantern that can also be charged via solar power during day but hoping a powercut wouldn't go on for so long as I have wheelchair/scooter to charge every night.
Best get the thermal undies and winter woolies out and washed as they've been in vacuum bags since end of last winter!

its a skoda yeti 7 speed auto box with a 'snow' setting. Its not so much the auto thats the problem its the turbo and the fact it (like all autos) will suddnenly drop a gear with one hell of a clunk without warning. I'm a tight git and drive very smoothy (to conserve fuel) but every now and then it will do a sudden kickdown. In all fairness its the 2nd best car ive ever owned but we need a auto cos of the wifes disabilty.poppypiesdad wrote:On your auto box is there not a 1 2 and a *Wales1 wrote:i;m not looking forwards to a icy winter...the car is a auto with a turbo and its taken me a year of driving it to get used to the way it accalerates in the dry, i thnk i'll be walking to the shops if the weather is really bad.
The 1 is auto box locked in 1st gear
The 2 is "" " "" in 2nd gear
And the * is ment to be for snow ice driving
Might not be that bad , what car is it ?

You will probably find on snow or ice if it does that the traction control will then kill the powerWales1 wrote:its a skoda yeti 7 speed auto box with a 'snow' setting. I bought a wind up LED lantern by silverline about a month ago, £3.99 at preppers shop. I hope they have sorted out their delivery issues as they have been very good until recentlykatilea wrote:I've done an extra big shop for dogs stuff incase snow does come early and added some extra tinned stuff to regular food order.

Re: Winter prep..
Every review I see for these is negative my last set were very similar with a bit of practice they are no hardship to fit. Just plan on getting mucky in the slush filled arches
Might never need them but in about 2005 I got stranded and in about 2006 I bought a set and used then a couple of times.. New car means old set are too small so new ones ordered and test fitted

Wish someone would invent snow chains for mobility scooters!

Me too, if I get cold then I put one of the sofa blankets across my legs but I'm one of life's stoics...and a big fat b'stard. Her Maj is already talking about putting the heating on, she's not quite so stoic*Squirrelcatcher wrote:I am still in my shorts and am remaining in denial. Winter is not coming...la-la-la-la-la...
