These for sale on local odds n ends stall. £10. Anyone know much about them? Any use? There are 3 in good condition - could post out for cost if anyone wanted

They would need re-calibrating in a proper lab to make sure they were ok, also only cover one type of radiation survey, is that what you really need, also need to weigh up the needs of such a device, or buy the wife a bunch of flowers and some chocolates instead

I'd probably get one for my collection, but as Gnole says, it'd need re-calibrating if you were to use it seriously. And if you seriously need one then you'd probably need to spend at least £100-200. At the moment, all Geiger counter prices are sky-high because of Fukishima, so I'd wait till it all calms down. (I bought all my ones before the Japan incident - I sort of collect weird stuff like that!)

A simple clicker Gieger counter without a meter on it is enough to alert you to raised levels of radioactivity, for example, I have the DRSB-01 and DRSB-88. But again, these are currently about 3-4 times the price on eBay.

I've got a PDRM-82, and at the moment that looks like a good price. But the PDRM-82 only shows quite high levels of radiation as it's designed for use after a nuclear war, rather than detecting lower levels. So whether it'd show a negligable rise in levels from things like Fukushima is unlikely!

If I were buying a Geiger counter today I'd probably wait until the DRSB-01s come down to their old £20-something price...

We have a NukAlert, it goes off if your out in the sun or if your around a microwave that's been in use. So far not picked up anything else, luckly.

That's not very good! So if it's a sunny day and you're outside it starts to alert you to dangerous levels of radiation? If it goes off too much, there'd be a problem of 'crying wolf', so eventually you just ignore its alert beeps, as that's just what it does normally. A bit like no-one really notices car alarms going off any more, because they go off so much.
