Think I might be a prepper

Post by Possej »

Hi all,

Been thinking of prepping for awhile and finally feel I should. Going into it very slowly as it feels strange and not something I will tell others about at this stage. I won't even tell my family at this stage as don't think they will get it.

Going to focus on bugging in rather than out at this stage. Have just ordered food with a long shelf life.

So I guess I am now a prepper, so hello to all fellow preppers.

Welcome to the forum, the best advice I can give to a new prepper is take your time and think about what you personally are prepping for and what YOUR priorities are. I think a lot of us wasted money trying to do everything straight away once we had our epiphany. Figure out what works for you and work towards it, there's a wealth of good stuff on here, I've learned loads of useful stuff, I hope you find it useful too.

Hello there.
I've found the term 'prepper' to be massively all encompassing.
If somebody has more than two weeks worth of food and means of cooking it, then some people may consider it prepping.
If you have candles and a bic lighter then you are prepping.
If you have a first aid kit at home, you are prepping.
If you have life and home insurance, you are prepping.
I may be totally wrong, but my scenario of preps coming good, is when I am in a bad place or situation, to put it right with preps, is good. Simple as that.
Forget a Rambo knife, think about what you need if everything went pear shaped for you.
Unless Bear Grylls is your brother, don't bother wasting money on a Bug Out Bag. Living in the wild, in the middle of the winter, undetected, is impossible for anyone, unless special forces trained, for more than a few days. For most, one night is enough.
Bugging in, in a riot type situation, is, IMHO, the way for you to think.
I have read a lot of stuff here, it's been great. Lots of experienced people.
I'd say keeping your preps ideas to yourself is best. Most people think we are weird.

Nicely put and a nice post in general :)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Hello and welcome to the Forum. :)
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

When family get silly about you spending on food just tell them it was a bargain...everyone likes a bargain!
