Entrenching tool come side arm.

Post by Citizen H »

something ive been working on for awhile, my take on a military entrenching tool come side arm,

6 moths ago I was checking out a skip and found the broken shovel that's very narrow but well made, also the skip provided a broken hard wood table leg, I wasn't sure how the two items would come together at the time, however after using the shovel one day for digging a fence post hole and then mixing cement, it cross my mind that if the broken handle was just a bit longer it would be of better use... after sorting through various bits of wood I rediscovered the table leg, with a bit of sanding it was perfect fit.

So there you have it, its light, well balanced and sits on the back of my pack without any problems, it has many uses ranging from digging, splitting logs, and self defense (should the need call)

basically in my world it pays to dismiss nothing and try to utilize what resources you have, I have several areas of stored items that may come in use someday...............

Happy scavenging, be safe Citizen "H"

I've approved this post but I'll just remind folk that we don't really discuss weaponry as such.

As a shovel it looks hand enough though.

The old army entrenching tools ended up plenty sharp enough after a bit of digging. I can remember running a lad to hospital after his mate chucked him the shovel and he missed it, it sliced the side of his arm open very neatly. He had quite a few stiches and his mate had to buy him a lot of beer( medicinal purposes of course)

I recall in the 80s a history teacher telling us about trench warfare, entrenching tools and pistols were widely used, today Ive been using it to half and quarter logs and will be looking to partly edge one of the sides to improve this task and to improve its usefulness I'm not looking to fell trees but hoping to loose the need to carry an axe in favour of having a digging tool, I'm going to run this past Scott at Wessex Blades to see what his thoughts are, thanks for the comments,
