Collapsible LED lanterns

Been after a couple of collapsible camping lanterns for a while, mountain warehouse had some for about the same price as these ones, Suaoki Camping Lantern Led Light Flashl ... pybKAYS3AD have to say these are the best ones I've seen so far though, had two of them turn up today, the mountain warehouse ones and most of the others that I've seen have a diffuser made of very flimsy fabric supported by a spring, these ones have a flexible plastic diffuser that looks like it'll last a lot longer as well as diffuse the light better (it does a good job, I just didn't put batteries in the other one to test it, I'm just going on appearances) and they feel like they're much better made, they're still a little cheap feeling, but they are cheap!

There are other versions that wind up or have solar panels, can't vouch for those as I just went for the straight battery powered ones, but these feel nice enough and I'd be happy to recommend them.

They look good, I've put them on the wish list for down the line. I've already spent this months 'zombie budget' and a late night purchase of a dutch oven (fnarr fnarr) has meant I've been a wee bit naughty already.

I have some of those too, but I wanted something that I can carry spare batteries for that'll give a safe ambient light, the USB ones are much brighter but require a power bank and some way of recharging it, both have their uses and for only a few quid there's no reason not to have both!

It's not so much a lantern in the traditional sense of the word but I have an inflatable pillow light/lantern which is LED, solar charged and holds a good 36 hours of charge in case of bad light.

It collapses down to the size of a a cigarette packet and has a handy clip for connecting to the outside of a bag for charging during the day.

Handy as it's small, compact when not in use and only weighs 200g. Inflated it expands to about 30x20x15cm cushion. Due to the shape it defuses the light over a nice usable area about 6ft across. Has loops to connect to a rope/bar/branch etc or turn upside down and lay it on the floor.

Worst case you could also use it as a cushion to sleep on, but i'm not brave enough to try it out lol.

Cost was about £8 on eBay.

To be fair it's a very similar effect to a head torch and a milk bottle, these are a little more convenient as you can just leave them hung up in the sleeping area, that's what I wanted them for, I have a huge tent with two bedrooms that I'm taking on an outing with a mate of mine and his little boy, and these are about perfect to leave hung up to provide enough light to get into bed, but I may decide to use them on other trips as well, and they'll be handy to have around as a backup to the backups in a power cut, I always have plenty of AA batteries.

Now if you have a car and go camping it can be charged via the cig lighter with a standard micro usb 1a adaptor.. (not supplied)

I am after something like that, I have a 2.5 litre diesel though so that one isn't man enough to start it sadly.
I'll get round to looking properly at some point, cheers for the heads up though.
