We all stock up on them but I have had a couple of bad experiences.

Maplin own brand and Panasonic batteries have leaked on me even though not been in the stash long. Some were at room temperature others were in a cool dry garage.

Not had this problem with Duracell. Anyone else found issues over storage life?

I stopped buying the cheap own brand batteries ages ago and every now and again buy a few packs of Duracell rechargeables. the cheap 10/20 packs look like good value but are badly made, and just because they have a 'brand' on them doesn't mean they're good quality, it's like most things, the more you pay, the better the quality will be.

That said, the Eneloop batteries seem to get very good reviews but i had the white ones and found them rubbish next to the Duracells.

The MAh on the duracell keeps creeping up though, some older ones are 2400mah, the newer ones are 2500, they last pretty well and charge quickly.

Only issue really is if you're using them for high output stuff, because rechargeable tend to be 1.3v whereas 'out of the pack' tend to be 1.5v

I suppose in an ideal world you'd have a good stock of both...

maybe slightly off topic but I picked up 4 batteries (alkaline) at halyards for free using O2 priority moments app the other day, probably still valid (i can't check as i used the voucher). not tried them yet though.

I've still got a reasonable stash of 'good' nonrechargeable batteries and a mixed bag of rechargeables (some Duracell but no Eneloops). Loads of chargers and a solar panel but living in the central belt of Scotland sunlight can't be guaranteed. For the 14500/18650 types its definitely a case of "you get what you pay for", again I've got a mixed bag, some cheap and fairly crap stuff I've bought from ebay, some that are cheap but decent and then Nitecore which seems to blow the rest out of the water but aren't cheap. I do try and carry out good battery routines on them all, and I need to start bringing in some more decent AA/AAA rechargeables. This prepping thing can get pricey.

It can, but it's so rewarding when other half comes home with a new clock / radio / light and goes;

"awww, it doesn't come with batteries..... you'll have some though won't you?!'

Cue grin, knowing next time i want to buy something i won't get 'the look'

Does 'the look' involve rolling eyes ? Her Maj knows I've still got a healthy supply of batteries and whenever a battery fails its my fault somehow, especially if they're rechargeable's. The more I think of it, she'll be zombie fodder come the apocalypse. At least I'll get peace to relax, at least until the batteries run out.

Good name alkaline batteries are good. Remember that "heavy duty" means only suitable for long term use and with low power drain such as electric quartz wall clocks and alarm clocks. Alkaline batteries can produce more power for bright torches, computer games, personal stereos and clock radios. Don't use heavy duty batteries in the Wii console remote

Have a look on you tube search for big Clive dot com . He did an interesting video about batteries . And the cheapest stand up to duracell and out perform them £ for mah. And just because the bunny goes on and on . I've had them leak in a variety of appliances from remote controls , torches, clocks . Opened my eyes . Take a look at it

I use batteries a lot and have to agree the bunny leaks a lot.
Also, have experimented with recharging various brands of alkaline, and bunnies are almost guaranteed to leak.

For the stuff we need batteries for we use the Poundland Kodak brand.One dozen AA or AAA for ...a quid.They store well and they work.
