Well for high winds I've got a fleecy hat
For cycling guess it's a cycle hat
Horse riding crash skull
Site use hard hat.
As for 9mm it's more 13mm nuts and bolts I'm used to not 7.62 or 5.56.......

hey poppypiesdad, 9mm 7.62 or 5.56, 303, .22, buck shot, nuts bolts both metric and imperial from a catapult and all and any munitions that people can lay there hands on will be pushed into service without much regard other than self preservation, hence the consideration of some form of head protection.

Ok I'll admit I do have several steel helmets, from ww2 British army Brodie style , and the deeper civil defence type and the later turtle style and have recently brought an old East German helmet which incidentally might be one of the ugliest helmets ever produced but has very good ballistic protection characterists . I also have hard hats for use on a building site and several re-enactment helmets from chapel de fers , sallets and even a great helm . That said I couldn't envisage wearing any of them in some sort of apocalyptic situation. However , the re-enactment helmets do give me an idea. We all wear helmets on the field as part of the safety rules but some of the girls who act as water carriers would look "out of place" with a helmet on so to look right and protect themselves they wear what we call a secret. This is simply a close fitting skull cap that can be disguised under other head ware . Ok so our helmets are only designed to deflect blunt arrows rather than bullets but the principal of a steel helmet under a woollen , with optional bobble , hat might be one to think of. Of course you would need to source a helmet of better , tougher steel but it's an idea.

Be Prepared.
Plan like its the last loaf on the shop shelves.
Plan like its the last beer in the fridge.
In a WROL situation I doubt there would be much threat from guns in the UK, at least in the short term. But civil war type street battles I totally buy into, and I say that as someone who is a rational, hard-nosed, optimistic, and conspiracy theory-mocking sceptic. Hence my thoughts on getting caving helmets. Hell, I'm considering dustbin lids to protect against thrown missiles.

I remember the concerns of chemical weapons being used on the under ground and the sudden increase of sales of gas mask's, I saw police helicopters being shot at by rioters in London....... etc etc etc.
