First it needs to fit YOUR face....

Smoke / fire hoods would probably be a better option if its for leg it to a place of safety option

Look for an ABEK P3 CO version

If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Personally I think a gas mask is a waste of money after all are you going to carry it around with you all the time otherwise you'd be dead, but I do like the idea of the smoke hood thing, so i might look into that
I'm lucky that I haven't go to go anywhere near where there would likely be a gas type attack, also have you thought that should you actually be wearing it during an attack some git would try to get it off you , or worse case you might get shot cos no Police officer or Soldier is gonna ask you if your a goody or a baddie in a live situation suspecting you are the one who has put the stuff down

just my ramblings.

A respirator is no good for Nuclear, Biological or Chemical (NBC) attack without the proper clothing and prophylaxis to accompany it.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

And the training, the maintenance and logistical backup.

Filters in most military resi are only good for 24hrs in use, or if they get wet.

While a gas mask may seem like a good idea, the problem you have is when do you put it on. Is it when you see a big green cloud, when you smell something funny, or when people around you start falling over?
Many gasses or bio weapons have no smell and no big cloud of "smoke" to give any warning.
I doubt there will be any official warning issued until it's way too late, and if you do smell something is it a chemical weapon, last nights kebab or the drains?, either way if you can smell it then it's probably too late as you'll have inhaled some of it, and depending on what it is you could be looking at half a day out with the undertaker.
As others have pointed out you need the full kit and the "noddy" suit for full protection anyway, and remember if you are exposed to something nasty even while wearing the suit you have to decontaminate it before taking it off.

Sniper is spot on the button. Took the words right out of my mouth!

I hated CBRN drills so much I became the CBRN Instructor for my unit just to get out of it haha.

They always need regular maintenance etc as well to check seals and filters.

Having said that if you do decide to go down that route always go for a newer style rather than the older models just as you will get a longer shelf life out of it.

You also need to make sure you have enough filters etc to last the required time to suit your needs. a single filter should only be used for 24 hours max.

For ease of use unless you have military training is a double filtered model (Like the new GSR which is issued to UK Troops) which makes your life easier when changing filters etc (less breath holding). Also make sure you get the ancills kit to go with it (fullers earth or similar for decontamination and cleaning)

The American Market has a lot of different models on the market now to suit special needs, I would suggest looking at some US forums and look at importing them. They also do a lot of child models which also use adult filters. JD, If you have any specific questions feel free to drop me a message.

I forgot to write what is the mask for. ISIS is threatening with chemical attacks on UK. Amazes me how approx 30k men can threaten the whole continent and how some countries pretend they fight them.

I get entirely where your coming from, I am an NHS CBRNE instructor and with all due respect all masks should be fitted for individuals via a fit test, any facial hair makes em useless, weight loss/gain or dental work likewise.

as CBRNE is your concern you would be better with a prps kit, however its impractical in normal life. I lead the trust HAZMAT team and we could suit up and be on air in 2 mins.

there are some good stuff, I have my kit and it has cbrne filters, sari full face mask, tyvex coveralls, boots, gloves and hazmat guide.

Can I ask what training you have and as others have said what/when do u envision using the kit, also whats your budget- a sari face mask costs £100 and filters around £40 each and it all gets binned and burned when used.

As others have said would be better with smoke evac hood, more chance of use and easier to convey day to day.
