Well, both dehydrated fine. When rehydrated, the mince is still a bit hard, but the chicken style peices are really rather good!

Were they the frozen variety and if so did you defrost and cook them first B?

Many thanks.

I dehydrated from frozen. I might try cooking first another time, unless someone has already done so and can comment?

Thanks.

For my real meat mince I brown it then dehydrate, so far its been vac sealed in a kilner jar for 9 months. All good.

15 mins with boiling water to rehydrate and tastes fine.

I've seen youtube vids of people doing the real mince and it seems getting as much fat out is key. I'm still in the early days of doing the 'hippy mince' so I'll see how well it stays preserved. I've got a big pot of curry sauce on the go in the slow cooker (mate coming round tomorrow night so I'll knock up a real curry) so I might try a Quorn chicken curry on the dehydrator next, I'm looking to build up a reserve of meals to take up the hills.

Just finished dehydrating a batch of leek and potato soup, first time I've dried it so will see how it rehydrates tomorrow.
Have done yellow split pea soup and lentil and vegetable soup before and they work fine, bit weird though, they break themselves into bits that look like cornflakes as they dry, the leek and potato stayed in sheets and I had to break it up by hand.

If you do try it then watch it when you're breaking it up, the edges are properly sharp, ended up with loads of little nicks all over my hands!

Kind of, I've actually always wanted to give the proper portable soup a go, never got round to it though.

The dehydrated ones are because if I come in wet and cold I often fancy a mug of soup, and home made is both healthier and tastier than the packet variety, it also means that I can use up veggies that are getting a little tired.

Jamesey: Something I found recently but haven't tried yet, making pocket soup in a slow-cooker

Thanks for that, not watched the whole thing yet but that does look interesting, might make it easier to give it a go.

Update on the leek and potato soup, it's taking ages to rehydrate, would probably work pretty quick if I simmered if for a couple of minutes but I want the soups to work in a mug just with hot water poured over them and while it is working it's taking far too long, if I was outdoors it would be cold by now.

Tomorrow I'm going to grind the flakes into powder, that'll speed it up no end I would think.

Currently got my phone on the dehydrator, I was a silly sausage up the hills and ended up to my waist in a bog and still had my phone in my pocket, last chance saloon for the poor thing. If I'd even thought it would be an issue it would have been in a dry bag in my rucksack. Grrrrr, #raging etc.
