Milling Wheat Grains

Post by CardiffGuy »

Evening All.

After scouring the net for hand wheat grinders, I came cross this site http://www.browfarm.co.uk/online_store/ ... grains.htm and thought it would be of use to those who are looking to store grain for future needs.

Yes, I have them in my favourites. Planning to buy when finances allow.

If you purchase please post a review. :D

We bought one of their mills a few years back, nice piece of kit but not very quick, I saw one that had been adapted to use on a lathe, on slow speed I hasten to add.

Thats great thinking...........................but just think of the excercise you give your arms when turning the mill. :D

Converting one to pedal power might be better, using a drive belt to the back wheel and a large feed hopper and a good sized collection bowl.

Good time to start collecting food grade buckets and mylar kits, then when the end of summer comes and they start harvesting the grain crops go and have a chat with the combine driver or the farmer and ask to buy direct from them.

Milling Wheat Grains

Hi

Does anyone know of a good value (cheap) grain mill for flour production on not daily/back up basis. I was sure I had seen one for £30 ish somewhere a few months ago - but nothing useful for less than a couple of 100 now....

Cheers

We have two grain mills - one is an attachment for the Kenwood Chef and is in regular use. The other is a hand mill we bought from Gioia della Casa - it was the cheapest place for a grain mill anywhere at the time, even with shipping from Italy. It's here - http://www.gioiadellacasa.it/articolo.a ... argamulino

If you click on the union flag it may even tell you about it in English! Anyway, that one is 56Eu52 which is... er.... £49.80

Special warning: hand grain mills are Hard Work For Little Result :D

On the subject of buying corn from the farmer - we buy half a hundredweight each September. The Chap Opposite Who Works For The Estate gets it for us for a fiver once the combine harvester has gone round. We then transfer it from paper sack to 3kg soup buckets which I get from work. Long may this arrangement reign!
