Folding shovel

Anyone has any experience with these? Where could I get a decent one? Ebay is full of these but don't know which are worth buying.

You can pick up decent ones from most army surplus stores. I picked up a cheap"Gelert" one from Trago (they do various sizes, i got the larger one) and it is fine. Only cost a tenner I think.

I have used the US folding ones in the past. they are all-right for small holes ( toilets and shell scrapes)
but would not use it for any real digging task. The cold steel shovel is much better but it does not fold. For anything deeper than a foot you are better off with a full size shovel. I now carry a trowel to dig a small toilet hole and have a old UK infantry shovel for larger tasks.

They're good and definitely have their place for preppers. I still have a couple, one lives in the truck and the other is stored. The smaller ones, folding trowels, are great for camping with inevitable latrine digging and burying waste!

If its purpose was to use for gardening or heavy work, its much easier and wiser to use a full length shovel thats purpose made. Still, they are a wise investment..... keep it oiled and sharpened and watch the twist lock. On cheaper models, I've seen the shovel shear here from hard use.
