Hey there, Hunter, designer and maufacturer.
Like many, I've noticed a few unnerving trends and believe that there are better ways of doing things. such as being able to depend on ones self. so I'm developing bug out van's that can go anywhere and set up in no time as well as looking for other tips and tricks such as Bug out stategies and critical time saving ideas.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Welcome to the forum! Bugging out is a bit difficult in this country in any widespread situation - but there could be a lot to be said for driving to a campsite on the coast if your home is inaccessible because of a fire, a chemical emergency or what not.
What kind of thing are you thinking of?

I hadn't thought about chemical situations, more along the line of a way to haul yourself and necessities quickly to anywhere where (Over pavements and through rivers etc) and could still live comfortably where ever you might be. started off with a small fibreglass and aluminium van and a 2.5 ton axle. then added other niceties, such as bathroom facilities and now trying to make a lighter less effort solution with more storage. thinking about older folks that don't have the lifting power. I'll share some pics, any advice would be appreciated. what are modern precautions against chemical attacks?Arzosah wrote:Welcome to the forum! I was thinking more of a tanker of chemical goods becoming involved in an RTA, but I'm a sucker for research:
Basic single page from the British Red Cross: http://www.redcross.org.uk/What-we-do/P ... mergencies
Larger, footnoted page from the US Department of Health and Human Services: https://chemm.nlm.nih.gov/terrorist.htm#guidelines
Note: this has a **lot** of extra pdf documents in the footnotes, including a 400 page Canadian thing for first responders. A few pages of that are useful for civilians like us too.
Another US one, the Dept of State this time: https://www.state.gov/m/ds/rls/rpt/20214.htm
There's a link to a small-ish pdf doc, and the page itself has some quite detailed info, like what to do if exposed (dusting with flour, with gloved hands, who knew?). If we were instructed to shelter in place because of a tanker crash, some of those precautions could well come in useful.
I do think it's vanishingly unlikely, though, and worst case is that tanker crash - the attacks we're getting at the moment are all with things that can be easily obtained and transported, neither of which is true in relation to chemicals. I honestly think there are other things higher up the spectrum.
