Greetings from a Newbie Prepper

Post by Mad Medic »

Greetings & salutations I have been interested in Prepping in one guise or another most of my adult life. However never really done much about it until recently, now I have a Go Bag packed and ready to go.

Engineer by trade, 20 odd years experience in Pre-Hospital care (SJA), fair amount of experience & knowledge of martial arts / self defence and have "played" in the outdoors for most of my life.

Look forward to contributing to the forum.

Thank you one and all for the kind greetings, as to my areas of interest I enjoy contributing to discussions on areas I have knowledge in. I am a qualified Trainer / Assessor (NVQ's) so I get a lot of satisfaction sharing knowledge. :)
Areas I'd like to develop, bushcraft / wilderness survival as a personal interest, from a real Prepping point of view I have never considered Bug Out Routes / Caches or anything like that so I have a lot to learn.

If anybody has a question on Pre-Hospital Care or Self Defence I'll always be happy to offer an opinion even if it ain't worth too much...........Oh my other area of interest, I have a "little bit" of a passion for edged implements. 8-)

We all have our own level of prepping, I don't have any bug out routes or caches myself. I'm happy enough with my preps although if I let my imagination run away......

Its a personal thing, I think, not what some dude on youtube is doing or on here, its all great for inspiration and I've had some great ideas from both sources, still do, pick up tips all the time. Whatever works for you though mate.

Same here, caches are an American import too far, I think. Bug out routes ... having lived in an area of London that prepared against riots (shopkeepers covering their windows etc) I have considered bug out routes, plus the town I live in now is so little that there'd have been a good chance I'd be away from it if the electricity were to go down for whatever reason - the routes then become bug *in* routes :)

Self defence - the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, sadly. Do you follow a system like krav maga?

I don't consider bug out routes either, even though I live right on the boundary between a town and a national park there's simply too many people around to make a bug out even slightly viable, having the local knowledge is useful anyway though, a bug out route in reverse is a good route home if I need it.

Bushcraft and survival skills are useful, and a fun hobby anyway, I've been pratting about in woodland since I was a kid, being able to live comfortably outdoors with just what's in your pack is quite liberating, and finding extra uses for the things you carry and figuring out what you don't need is even better, you don't need ultralight gear if you can be comfortable with half as much stuff. :)
