Review of the Pathfinder stainless steel bottle and cup kit.

Post by Jamesey1981 »

I've had this kit for over a year now and I'm very happy with it so I thought I'd share it with you all.

This is it: https://www.heinnie.com/pathfinder-bott ... gK8e_D_BwE

You can buy a more extensive kit that comes with a pot stand and a bag but I went for the standard kit and added the stainless steel hanger as an additional item.

It's stood up really well, it's made of very heavy gauge steel and I haven't dinged or dented the cup or the bottle, I did bend the lid for the cup but that's made of thinner steel so it fits tightly, it bent back again fine.

I've done a video review of it for anyone that's interested.

37 quid is a bit pricey for me, I've got stainless steel bottles and a stainless steel cup that don't quite marry up off the internet for about a quarter or third of that (can't remember), no lid right enough. I'll watch the vid though mate, always like a good nose. :)

There are indeed cheaper options, this is a really nicely made and designed kit though, and the option of being able to hang both the cup and the bottle over a fire is what sold me on it. You could of course modify any cup to work, and I have the tools to do it, but I like that it works straight off with no modifications or experimentation.

I used an army surplus one for years too, the early inspiration from Ray Mears stuck, and they are nice to use.
I just decided on an upgrade, and as I've moved over to lighter packs rather than military surplus (my day pack is still surplus, and I have an LK35 for Bushcrafty trips, but if I'm covering a lot of ground I use a lightweight pack) most of the bottle pockets are designed to fit a nalgene style bottle that's why I went for a bottle in this style.

They do make a canteen set that's similar which would probably suit you if you ever did fancy a change, they have the same wide mouth on them that I find very helpful, it's an odd size though, 39 ounces, which means it's about 1100 ml and might be a problem for puritabs, I'm sure you get a little flexibility with them, this one is very slightly under a litre and I've been fine but I'd be personally wary of going slightly over as I'm not sure exactly how much flexibility you get.
