After 12 months or so I will drain it and put the fuel in the motorbike. Also sorted out some old pop bottles to fill with water and stick in the veg containers for when we are away next week, will drop the seedlings that are still in trays round to the neighbour to look after.

Just as a side note, i have been watering the veg using water from 2 x 200L butts for the last 2 weeks. We've had hardly any rain over the last 2 weeks and now one butt is empty and the other is only 2/3 full. It's amazing how much you use just for a little veg plot like mine, worth bearing in mind if things ever went totally belly up. We have a river very near us so it wouldn't be a major problem for us but if you dont have access to a river/well etc it would be a really good idea to think of alternative arrangements. Another week and a half with no rain and both my butts would be empty just looking after the veg.

yep, our water butts are the same - big one nearly empty, yet to start on small one. We need some rain.

Ordered £25 worth of heirloom seeds for storage. Intend to do this every few years.

Succumed to a Maxpedition mini edc to replace my edc tin!

Hobo,

How are you planning on storing the seeds? Doing anything special with them?

I've recently bought a load which I intend to keep, and wondered if anything needed doing to them?

I've planted my salad garden from seed today, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, chillis, basil, coriander and rocket...will be interesting to see how they grow (these aren't heirloom ones, just a cheap patio kit from b&q)

Am getting a wee bit twitchy because too many things seem to be going wrong worldwide. Think I seriously need to stash a bit more away... I can't plant salady stuff for another 2-3 weeks yet, and we seem to be in what the old books call the "hungry gap" that comes in springtime. Plus a bit of salad wont stop hunger for long !

Well, nothing yet - but it will be ready when you have stuff to dry. And you can dry stuff you buy too...
