Have you used it? How? I'm a bit scared of harvesting wild mushrooms in case I harvest a poisonous one!
I googled and found another link for preppers/survivors about this mushroom and the writer said some irresponsible preppers had harvested as much as they could to try and sell it. They had taken more than they had needed and it ended up being wasted!

i have collected some today it has a very nice sweet smell to it i also tasted a little but am going to study it more before drinking it. My thoughts are that if its growing on the birch and you have a good photograph of the chaga then its probably easily identified. I say probably but its up to each prepper to make absolutely sure they have the right mushroom.
We are blessed in our locality with a fine silverbirch woodland and i spent three hours wandering about and found two fine specimens wrapped around the thin trunk. They resembled a swarm of bees hanging on to the trunk thats how i would describe them. They are certainly not plentiful but their dark shape is easily spotted.
Today was a prime example of having an attempt at prepping and discovering my plans where suspect. I packed a small saw in my rucksack and thought this would be sufficient to remove the chaga from the tree. How wrong i was because this stuff is really difficult to remove with the saw i had. a better idea would be a good sharp axe and some means of getting higher up the tree. I was struggling to reach the height to collect the chaga and so only got a small amount.

In response to people taking more than they need, i do hope it wasnt preppers who where responsible because of all people these are the ones who are savvy with the world and we have lost all hope if this is the case. I heard the same story and it seems it occurred in the good old USA.
