peejay, thanks for replying in such detail to the "what did they do" question, thats good to know. I have some Amazon vouchers to buy things like the Atrauman gauze, sounds great.

Awful to hear your partner has sepsis :( and another issue too: I hope she responds to the treatments she's having really quickly.
