Rats and chickens
Well the cold weather has showed up a bit of a issue
Fresh digging at both ends of my coup and a established run down and under one side of the "run" to the water..
So mk 4 fenn trap set over one burrow and 2 types of poison purchased but someone told me that layer pellets contain vitamin k which nullifies the poison?
Trap should give me some indication as to the size of the rats small = babbies = bigger problem
They were 3 X fresh diggs into the greenhouse tonight from yesterday (chicken food is kept in a galvanized bin) so I think I have a larger problem than one lone rat

A wiser man then me once said "If you have chickens then you keep rats"
I hope Roland and family stop being a problem soon

Ha ha! What Forge said. Chickens and rats go together. Keep bait points down.It works for me.

Re: rats and chickens
Put some one feed one kill blocks down in a rat box let's see what happens allong with a fenn trap on what looks to be the most active hole....
Popped down about half an hour ago no sign.. know they are usually active at last light . .
If they continue I'll remove poison give it a week and install a cat

Ug, good luck, Andy, I hope between the trapping and the poison you can sort it. A cat is always a good thing, of course

Don't want to trap "flea tard" in the greenhouse till the weather improves she is semi ferral has a really thick coat at the moment but has her own thermally insulated box in the shed with a cat flap to gain access she's spent the past week in their seems happy enough

Poison and traps are more efficient.

Remember that rats are phobic of new things, it might be a week of so before you see any result.
I've put down bait in the past and had nothing go for eight or nine days, then had to re-fill every day for a week (which sorted the problem)
Just had to start baiting again after a long lay-off, I leave the boxes down but empty between times

Re: rats and chickens
Well I've got my other tunnel and fenn trap back from the mil
I backfilled all the digging round the greenhouse last night and true to form they made entry so I've left it open and put my fenn trap next to the hole with the tunnel so if they want to use it they have to go over the trap laced with peanut butter with grain and a few layers pellets
