It doesn't have to be SHTF,although in that situation, without specs, you would be at a serious disadvantage I reckon.I shall be seeing the Eye Vet next week to get a couple more pairs.
...just my ramblings.

Same goes for hearing aids, I've always got a spare around with plenty of batteries, usually next to my spare glasses.jansman wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 4:53 pm I am far from unique in having to wear reading specs. However, last week a pair went terminal, and today a pair fell apart as I took them from their case at work.Fortunately I was able to repair them...when I got home and got my spare pair, and could see what I was doing!Anyhow,my point is,that if you rely on glasses, make sure you have spares.Mine are simple reading glasses, but my wife has varifocals ( about £200 a pop!), but I insisted that she have a spare pair, because without them she is scuppered. So am I.

We're at the same stage with the specs dotted around mate. I keep a fresnel in my wallet as an ultimate backup too. Bought a load of cheap ones but haven't figured out what to do with them yet so in with the rest of my 'just in case' stuff.jansman wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 5:46 pm I am due an eye test next week. I shall get an update, sort a couple of pairs of reading specs... but in the meantime I have been using cheapo .99p 2.0 strength jobs. They have worked VERY well, and I have a pair on me, at work, in the work shop and in my fishing box. I shall make sure a pair goes in my GHB, although in the Old School survival tin is a Fresnel - style lens, which would do in a pinch.
