After my leisurely breakfast,I shall be planting the final crops out.Marmande tomatoes,sweetcorn,spaghetti marrows and outdoor pickling cucumbers.Got leeks to go in too.I shall sow another 3" pot of lettuce, and then we just wait for nature to take it's course. I think we can safely say that frost risk has passed.
Then in July,it's on to oriental greens etc. for overwinter.Where's the year gone to?

I’m running late! Only just got the beans and peas in (marigolds going in today as companions). Oh and Lil’s favourite, kale, should really be planted out too I suppose

I'm even later. Again. I may have to overwinter kale in the house as a pot plant ... I'm away again for 4 days at the start of June, can't plant it now. Not doing badly for perennials, but not-planting-veg is a prepping fail, big time, no matter *why* I'm not doing it

The garden is what the late John Seymour called,' routine work', which had to be done.The outhouse roof, which needs a few slates sorting, he would have called,' capital work', which needs to be done,but is relegated to second place,in favour of the routine work.The garden will now tick over,and then start to crop,which is good.Now tomorrow,I could do that capital work,or I could go fishing.Arzosah wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 12:09 pm I'm even later. I love that work distinction, thats so good. And I'm utterly rubbish at 'routine work' in those terms - I guess I call that maintenance. I've just been ranting on another forum about the couch grass, leafy strawberry plants (no strawberries) and something else deplorable, that have surrounded my chives/ lemon balm/ sage/ salad burnet. I'd like to catch up by the end of next month - half of this year, that would be great! - and to be fair to me, the kitchen is nearly finished. Formal commitment here: I'm going to try to get on an even keel with my 'routine work' by the end of June
