What I did for toms I planted out I mixed half and half to see what happens - unfortunately we picked up loads of miracle grow organic so cant leave it to waste, so will see how it pans out - fingers crosseditsybitsy wrote:Oooooooh - gawd knows! I bought it from a local shop...Selfsufficientwoman wrote:itsybitsy wrote:Eeek! I haven't given any of my veg any added feed at all! I just stuck everything in tubs of organic compost...
Can I ask which organic compost you used?- I started my veg on Miracle Grow organic compost and the sweet peppers took for...........................ever to germinate much much longer than normal nearly 2 months!and then on top that the soil started to grow moss on the top which has never ever happened to me in the years of growing veg with normal compost - so transplanted everything into larger pots with normal compost and everything started to grow fine and everything is ok now - but would be interested to know if you have had any problems like that???? (bearing in mind you may have used a different organic compost than me)
Funny you mention that, because some of my seeds took way longer to germinate than others - I do have two or three pots of 'normal' compost but I can't remember which ones they are so it may be that the stuff in normal compost started off much quicker than the organic ones. And I also got moss on a couple of tubs! I need to get some more so I may just go for bog standard compost rather than high falutin' organic stuff

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Bought myself another box of lightsticks, and more AA and AAA batteries.
Got three lightweight towels from Sports Direct, ideal for B.O.B's, small and weigh very little.
Bought three packets of guy line from Poundland, its actually 5 x 3 metre lengths of 4mm para cord, not bad for a pound a packet!
Bought another set of camping pans for £7.99 and an adjustable spanner for £2.99 from Aldi.
More food items, coffee, tea, sugar, rice etc.
Taking care of my raised beds, should have fresh peas and strawberries in a few weeks (all grown from seeds).

Thats a good idea, a small adjustable spanner could be a good little addition to my B.o.B.theboss2010 wrote:and an adjustable spanner for £2.99 from Aldi

Just ordered 'Food for free' and another preping book from amazon and a emergency phone charger. On the way from China some mosquito hat nets and another compass. Also am watching a couple auctions on fleebay - particularly interested in some shemagh scarfs, foam mats, heavy duty jump leads and a 3 ton tow rope.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Stocked up when shopping after discovering some good deals, 4kg pasta shapes for £3, breakfast cereal for 49p per 500g box (took all 6 boxes), tons of reduced veg and fruit that's going into my dehydrator tonight.
My pressure canner arrived from the US this week (awesome service by Amazon.com) so I'm going to make up a jam pan full of beef & venison stew that also doubles as a pie filling and have a go canning that, which should free up some freezer space for garden stuff that doesn't dehydrate particularly well.
Costco tomorrow to add to stores of loo rolls, toilettries, cooking oil and spices, plus whatever they have on offer,

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
I got an oil lamp off ebay today. It's a bit rusty but looks functional. Will now have to buy oil and test it out.
I was going to spend tomorrow shifting preps around and rearranging storage space after a long think. However, Bruno (one of my dogs) chased a cat this evening. The cat was sitting on a heavy log. Bruno dislodged said log (I'm sure you can guess what's coming next .....) Log fell onto my foot. Plenty of swear words were uttered. Once I had limped home and taken my boot off, I watched in awe as the bruise coloured up before my eyes. I have never seen that happen before! My toes still wiggle so nothing is broken but hells bells it's sore. Tessy (other dog) trod on it and stars swam before my eyes! So tomorrow will be spent with my foot up. I'm not even sure it will bear the weight of the duvet in bed tonight
Bloody dogs!!!
