Eye Protection

Post by axelt123 »

It just occured to me that our eye are most vulnerable it might be worth having some eye protection in your BOB because you dont want to have someone throw dirt or chemicals into you eyes at least you can limit the impact on yourself. Because if you lose sight all is lost.

I totally agree and try to have some eye protection available at work as well as in my BOBs. They are good to have when doing bushcraft/gardening as well as branches and the like have a habit of lurching into view. Do try to have decent protectives and not just glass, as on one occasion I was firing a weapon (authorised and legal!!!) and the hot cartridge flew into my right eye. It didn't hurt as i was wearing shades at the time but not my range eyewear. The lens cracked but did not break, so I was very lucky.

I also got some decent protective eyewear for free when they brought out a new product (can't remember the manufacturer, so keep ones eyes peeled for offers (excuse the pun)! 8-)

I am always weary of anything that is a danger to your eyes.

My dad suffered a horrific eye injury a number of years back which has made me more cautious. We do not realise how easy and quick we can lose something so precious.

Impact glasses found in the DIY section of most hardware shops are good..... DeWalt and Cat do some good ones that are shades as well. Be weary about goggles unless they have vents, nearly all goggles will steam up inside.

Steam up, you keep taking them off to wipe out the moisture, you get fed up of doing it, you're back to square one without eye protection!! Done this myself so many times, so I hope its taken on onboard by someone from my experience!!

spit in them, and spread all over the lens on the inside.
it stops my diving mask from steaming up

That doesn't really work on land because of the body heat radiating out (thus drying out moisture), dust, etc, etc, from my experience. Goggles ALWAYS steam up slightly depending on how warm the expelled moisture in your breath is I've found.

i personally have a paintball mask due to playing it most weekends, it is designed to survive an impact of a paintball exceeding 300 fps, additionally i have a S10 respirator with spare filters incase of possible air contamination

Some people believe humans evolved. If we did, how come we only have 2 eyelids and cats have 6?

Surely we would have 6, like cats, or at least thick ones to keep out the sunshine when we are asleep. I see all these people on programs like Grand Designs who design and build their homes worth 100's of thousands of pounds and don't have any curtains. I do not get up with the sun so I think humans should have thicker eyelids to keep out the bright light and protect our eyes.

I have already signed my petition, just don't know who to send it to.

My girlfriend said the other day to me: "Why cats have fur and humans dont? It would be so fascinating to have fur and not wear clothes"

But back to the topic. I can honestly recommend these http://airsoft-club.com/shop/tactical-g ... lens-black Had them for about 4 years now and the things that they went through include being shot at with a 450 fps airsoft rifle, multiple drops and various hard landings - a couple scratches but still intact and fully functional and you can change the lenses on these too.
