So, could those of us who have or are stashing scrap PM's or bullion give some advice for those of us that want to start ?

Well, you can start by deciding what you want. There are dealers online such as Bullion by Post. I buy a lot on eBay though. When I have the energy, I advertise locally and take my testing kit and scales and buy stuff privately. I pay 60% of spot price, 70 if they push me. Means then I make a profit.

So, a testing kit such as This and a set of precision scales, then work out how much pure gold based on the carat ?

Where can I find spot price ?

What do you do to protect yourself from buying stolen goods ?

Yep, that’s the kind of kit. Stolen goods? I just get a note to say it’s Kosher, and give a receipt to that effect. Given that I don’t sell the gear on at the moment, If plod came knocking then it wouldn’t be a problem. Mind you, I haven’t bought like that since before my wife took ill, so I am in the clear now! Been buying 1 Troy ounce silver Britannias on eBay, as it takes less effort at the moment, and also some pre 1920 British sixpence, shillings and florins.
