Hi from London.

Post by GillyBee »

Long term lurker Gillybee here. It seems time to make myself known and stop hiding.
I have been prepping in a small way since before I knew the word. I have learnt a lot on here and would like to join in the chat and share knowledge. I already feel as if I know many of you.

Interesting times. I unexpectedly found myself going into self-isolation/ work from home 14 days before the rest of the country as my family were ill. Thankfully no-one has been very ill.
I had enough supplies in to not worry much although I would have liked a bit more chance to get last minute preps.
Avoiding the panic buying of loo roll did make me feel quietly smug. :D
The "local" is now our main provider of fresh stuff after t'other half had a traumatic 3 1/2 hour trip to do a "normal" supermarket shop.
We probably won't try that again. I have found a restaurant supplier who delivers to home customers.
If you need next day online food delivery in South West London I would recommend Woods Food Service. I am sure there are similar suppliers in other areas. You do have to set up an account first and then order over the phone from the product list. Mostly bulk or multipacks. Prepper heaven!

That's interesting, Gilly - I have a friend in Brixton who's emailed me that her stocks are getting quite low - any idea if they deliver there? It says it has a list of delivery areas and schedules, but there's no link on the page.

I'm glad you've come out of self isolation pretty much unscathed!

Hi, and welcome. Are you in Inner London? I'm curious and perhaps you can shed some light or compare notes.... How do you think it differs locking down in London where I imagine open spaces to be precious compared to Provincial suburbs?
I can imagine that there is a world of difference to being constrained to a flat or similar in the middle of the metropolis to, say, having the liberty to wander around a housing estate that is 100 yards from open countryside and public footpaths through fields.
I'd really love to know how Inner city dwellers are coping where intimate close proximity is the only way to be.
How much urge do you reckon there is to escape the City to more rural climes?

Thanks for that! They go out much further than I imagined, my Brixton mate will have no problem.
