"Exactly what are your views on how fellow preppers can insulate themselves against this coming storm, if that's even possible?

For me it would be property, cash, silver, gold and brass ;) (If you can still get any) and some crypto currency, seeing anything beyond the basics is not on my radar these days.

On a more practical thread, good friends, personal skills (especially growing and preserving food), fitness, the ability to laugh at yourself and a the love of good partner, without those, the first list is worthless.

Not too much to ask is it?

Well, I don't think having a partner is a necessity for survival.

No offence intended to anyone, I'm far better off with Mrs A, as she reminds me everyday.

I think that a good strategy ,is learning to live on less.I know that probably comes under the heading,' Stating The Bleedin' obvious ' .

An old work mate of mine used to say, " expect £### all,and you won't be disappointed. " That is our attitude to the current financial situation.Mrs. J has drawn up an austerity budget and we are now living on 30% less. She can cut it further still if needed.*I* fully expect the economic situation to get worse for everyone.Getting used to less now, will be a good primer for later.

I'm very wary about gold and silver..esp gold. At anytime a govt could, theoretically, announce that from x date onwards it will be illegal to have gold unless you are a bank. Maybe not likely but I'm sure it has happened.
I think a lot depends on where you live, what kind of house you have. A cottage hidden in the woods or the back roads through hills is far far better than being in a city. Then you can stay under the radar, cut and burn wood all you like, grow what you can, and add in ferrets and a fishing rod. That might sound simplistic but I know plenty who live well like that. And that all cuts down the amount of money you need in the first place,,, you know?

I would love to live in a house like this, but alas not in my price range, I have 2 allotments close by and a school near. At the moment we are prepping by trying to aquire off grid tools and equipment that will last, ie hand cranked drills, saws, planes etc. We will not be buying anything extravagent for quite a while.

Get out of debt, reduce outgoings and invest in building a strong local community where people are used to exchange without money.

If possible, I'd diversify income streams too but that's a hard one.

Personally, I don't see cryptocurrency as a worthwhile spend. Unless there is a coin that's traded for things you use now.

Where you live is about mindset. I don't live in the back of beyond ( we are rural),and I live in a terraced farmworkers cottage. It has a large garden, true.I fish and shoot etc. However, If you have access to two allotments ,you are halfway there! You are going for off grid tools - excellent idea. How about a bit of small scale solar? You know, little gizmos like radios and phone chargers. Some urban foraging or skip raiding?

I am working with what I have right now, like you, there is no spending. My mindset is one of " how can I improvise, how can I work round that? " For instance,my greenhouse is in full swing.I am getting very low on 3" plant pots. My elderly neighbour would generally help me out,but of course we have to maintain social distance. What to do? Tip out the recycling bin! Tin cans and plastic cartons galore.Punch holes in ' em and boom! Mindset.
