Would You Consider Joining A Prepper Inspired Community?

Very interesting topic indeed. First one I’ve witnessed anyway, going deeply into the concept of lone wolves...but also the benefits of being in a ‘pack’

Much to be learned from books and documentaries on my favourite animal....wolves

Learn more about group order than the hundreds of books about us humans...definitely a new take on the idea...learn from animals, as they still live the life of survival, no mod cons for them !

Apologies I may have given the wrong impression. I was merely using the terms because they seemed to fit enough in the scenario I was talking about. I do not thinking living with a wolf hierarchy or the wolf way of life is a good idea for humans. (Although I love a good wolfy book as much as the next fan).

I used these terms on a few topics I think, as it is the way I’ve always thought, too many survival books about humans, we know the basics of human survival - fire, shelter, etc - but true survival alone or in a group always was compared to my favourite animal...even have used the term ‘wolfen’ to describe the human equivalent.

It’s lone wolf I picked up Lone from, but it was a subject never taken up by any groups I was on, they would not depart from the human aspect.

As an aside, I’ve read books on animal guides, in which each animal is described in a human way, in order for those seeking an animal comparison to themselves...however...it is said you don’t find your own animal guide...they find you !

Well. I beg to be different. as usual I hate wolves, I hate committees, I hate being told what to do, and I'm content to stay well out of the crowd. I've lived like this for over 40 years and hope to go on as long as we can. This village has only about 2 doz houses and sits at 300m above sea level, so I wouldn't say life was easy but it's not at all bad.

I used to watch a programme called The Planners I think, which was about villagers, etc., having to fight to stop developments being built on the green areas around them.

It was in this, or other programmes, that suggested that villages in years to come will be a rarity, population expansion and a kind of land-grabbing, taking away their isolation and turning them unwillingly into towns, maybe even eventually cities.

Also, there was a term used, more in the US I think, called Eminent Domain, that if areas where people lived, prevented developments (usually schools, hospitals, etc) the Government could claim this process and buy you out or have you removed.

As the population expands, outlying villages are being absorbed, at the same time small coastal communities are being lost due to sea erosion.

In time villages, by their very appeal, will draw the masses, gradually changing what they were into something else entirely...it’s quite sad tbh

It’s almost like we are being forced to live closely together...villages may become only a memory

We won’t see that.

This planet will not become a planet like in Star Wars which is one big city.

The planet would crumble and die if that were the case.

Besides Mother Earth has a way of chipping away at out numbers. Tsunamis, flooding, fires maybe even a deadly disease or virus one day....but it will take out a lot of the population out and nature will simply take over again.

Resources, or lack of such, will drive such decision-making.

Everything is owned by somebody...and we are all under the digital thumb of Big Brother...not many places to really hide or go off-grid, unless like a vast country like the US, but even then, much of it is deserts and wasteland, only the hardiest will try living in such locations, lacking water resources, etc

I always liked the idea of living further north into the Scottish Highlands, but the weather, etc., is brutal, chances of being cut off completely in snow, etc

Unfortunately, trying to be a lone wolf in an urban area, can make you stand out or seemingly anti-social, yet it is a personal choice, not meaning you are not amiable to know or talk to

I know of quite a few communities where people do their own thing but commit so much time to the community every month and share & rotate duties so everyone gets a turn. Depends what kind of community you sign up for. But what Arwen suggest is one where you can do your own thing but are there when the groups needs the extra support from one another.

Hypothetically for example my neighbour breaks their leg and I go round to help them. The community then helps them out with their growing or animals as well as look out for their neighbour whilst they get better?

Am I missing something?

Yes, Arwen has caught my attention due to both his lone wolves scenario, plus finding a sort of middle ground where such ‘lones’ live in their own satellite camp away from the main groups/communities, keeping their independency, but at the same time, when needed will rise to the occasion.

I like that very much...instead of being in a group full-time with rules/commitments a constant, whereas a lone can help when wishing, but not be held under any obligations...a freedom instead of feeling constrained...making it more likely a lone would assist and not feel trapped sort of thing, knowing they can leave at any moment

Yeah! As soon as anyone tells me what to do it gets my back up and I drag my feet.

When the ask sincerely and nicely, with manners you can find me very obliging. But the moment I feel forced or trapped I’m completely useless and very disgruntled.

I like seeing several neighbours and family people...maybe once a fortnight but the rest of the time I enjoy being on my own doing my projects.

I would like there to be more community events in the village, we only really celebrate two events in the year. But I think a prepper village you’d help each other with projects or feel safer in specialising. Bio diesel or example, or black smithery etc, etc.

Although can I just say I had no idea how badly society seems to need hairdressers there is a skill I need to pick up if only rudimentary! My roommate has an appointment for 8th. But is a little miffed they couldn’t get one on the 4th when it opened!!!!!
