Scotland is not a playground for English preppers, I'm not being rude, just blunt and honest. Try the Yorkshire moors instead - I've been there once and it looked like home to me. Much the same terrain only flatter.
The Highlands have an Arctic climate in winter and roads are very few and difficult. The west coast is mild but WET and midgy. My Border hills have a better climate but very few centres of population, miles and miles of nothing. As in - nothing. No houses, no land available for building any.
Never going to happen LIL we are going to be lucky to get half a dozen at this rate.

But for context the man I grew up very close to and thought of as my "Father" was born in Keith, Moray (Banffshire) whereas my "Dad's" family was from the York / Harrogate area. We visit both regions almost every year.

The whole Kielder - Pennines - Moors areas are fabulous places also, I agree not dissimilar to some parts of the Highlands.

For us that's one of the great attractions, there are few places where you get four true seasons. We have lived where you often get cut off for weeks in winter and its something we actually miss now, not so much at first though, it was a quite learning curve for sure.

You know what...when I think about it I've only been told that England subsidises Scotland and I never queried it as it must have made sense to me at the time, but that is still not the right attitude to take.

But I shouldn't be making claims I cannot back up with evidence or data so please accept my sincerest apologies...

WTF? The Scottish comments were off kilter enough, Raven, and this one is off the scale. The economics and politics of present day and historical Africa, and the intrusions upon it by whites and others of various continents, are horrendous, and this sort of glib "joke" is one of the reasons why politics isn't allowed on this forum. And frankly it makes me very wary of casting my net in that direction.

I agree with Arzosah...WTF ?!

How did this topic change so badly...I was enjoying it.

If anything, it proves that some have opinions that might not be realised until too late...and this forum is a sort of community where it has happened...unbelievable...it took me ages to trust a site enough to join.

Now I know why I choose to be alone...although I may add, many members here have been very accepting and tolerant of myself which I have very much appreciated, especially to have contact with fellow preppers during this pandemic.

I’ll not involve myself in topics any more...but will keep visiting

Keep well...keep safe...keep prepping

It's interesting this happened, and it does highlight part of the issue at hand.
I didn't read Raven's original comment(s), they were obviously thoughtless to some degree, but she appears contrite and somewhat embarassed. Possibly rightly so, I don't know. I am not condoning her comments.

However, it's probably more true to say, that politics is not allowed on boards such as these because people become too easily offended, get 'bent out of shape' and it leads them to be rude to others, and thereby reduces any opportunity for anyone to have a genuine conversation from which both, or all parties benefit.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but instead of kindly asking Raven to refrain from making the offending comments, and to move along (and doing likewise), you chose to be rude, and to get in a dig with your own little racist, and political diatribe.

Just checking.

If you're the sort of person to become easily offended (and retaliate in kind), or get bent out of shape, or withdraw from a difficult conversation at the first sign of conflict (instead of trying to resolve the issue), then I would suggest that you're not the sort of person who's suited to living in a community the likes of which we're proposing.

Oops, now, I've quite possibly torn it.

To my mind, it only proves the point that you need to take time to get to know people beforehand. That's the whole idea of the network. No one is suggesting we suddenly all move in together. The suggestion is, that people meet through the network, to socialise and train together. Eat together, spend time together, and THEN, and only when all parties are comfortable, folks will consider joining together into local groups, of their own choosing, under their own terms.

It’s getting a bit heated. We all make a mistake. We are only human. Raven has self reported, and I have given benefit of the doubt. Carry on, but be aware I may lock the post.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
