I am a big fan of guns and believe that everyone should have the right to own one.
Now before anyone jumps down my throat, please take a look at this website and read the 2 Myths pages.

This guy puts forward a very good argument which most will find very hard to disagree with. He is starting up 3 new petitions in July, if you are interested feel free to sign up for them.
I won't repeat the contents of his website here as that would defeat the object of giving you the link but it would also be nice if people actually took a look the website before slagging off idea of gun ownership.
Gun laws only effect people who abide by laws. Criminals don't.
Be lucky (and armed)
Arm the Nation
Re: Arm the Nation
I personally think we need to arm ALL police before we start handing out guns to Joe Public.

Re: Arm the Nation
I do not have a problem with that.
It's like the nuclear arms race. It every country in the world had nuclear weapons, other countries would think twice before invading them, destroying their infrostructure and murdering the indiginous population before raping them for their resources.
We are hypocrites when we say other countries can't have nuclear weapons and yet we have them. How would we feel if say North Korea had nukes before us and said we were not allowed them because they said so????
The quotes page on that website makes great reading.

I have held a FAC and SGC for over 44 years and own some 30+firearms.
I do not believe Mr Graham Showell (owner of britainneedsguns) understands the difference in culture and ethos between the US and the UK. A freely armed population in the UK is unnecessary and unwanted, what is needed is some sense in the licensing system we now have. For example, all civilian shooting in the UK is sport related and should be controlled by a sporting body e.g. BASC. This would free up the police to do what they do best, police the lawbreakers.
The UK has moved on morally from an armed population, the penalty for mugging is not death and such a move would never be countenanced by the people at large. The problem is elsewhere, police application, CPS and the judicial system. These need fixing first.
Self defence laws are the same in the UK and the US and work well.
I think that Mr Graham Showell has made a strategic error in combining his 'Castle Doctrine' with being armed and one argument will taint the other, a pity.

Re: Arm the Nation
I'm against it - shot a couple guns myself and do enjoy shooting (don't shoot anymore, don't have a gun and don't want one) but am against arming the nation. There's no need for that.

Re: Arm the Nation
I think it would only add to the problems we have. What is the point ? Why do we need them? Have we got bears roaming the woods outside the cabin?
And I think the argument that its not fair us having nukes/countries like North Korea etc not having nukes is ill advised. Level-headed sane countries can be depended on not to do anything totally batty (usually!) whereas some of these other places are very unpredictable & unstable.

The UK ends ups up with the right to bear arms. I'd rather be arming my fridge.
It would be an even more scary scenario WHSHTF if we go around shooting people for a tin of beans. Firearms (and those portable thermonuclear devices) have a habit of 'going missing'. More Guns= More Murders. This is not L.A.
Deterrents like a good Crossbow is ideal visual threat. However, if the other guy has a gun mean you'd need one too. The vast majority of firearms users in the UK are fine upstanding citizens, but in the US you can buy your weapons along with your milk. Nutters also drink milk.
Could you imagine that though? Marks & Sparks selling semi-automatics?
Shoot-out for two for a tenner....

If you have never handled guns you will be generally scared of them.I personally own guns, and think the USA has a good system in the second amendment.allegedly there is more gun crime in Nottingham and Manchester than New York-and guns are effectively banned here!

Re: Arm the Nation
I have crossbows (and working swords, axes and a morningstar
) but would rather be able to have firearms, simply because the criminals in Britain can be so easily armed and often are...
In a SHTF scenario, I would rather start off with an advantage than struggle to find one against potential looters and murderers who would be better armed than me.
Hope that makes sense.
I do see everyone being armed as a great deterrent, right or wrong. Then the matter of threat comes down to the character of the firearm holder and we must all take our chances with skill of use, none of which we will have by the time the fan is hit, because whilst in some inner cities unofficial `gun clubs for yoofs` exist so they can get their practice in, we`re all busy obeying the law and hoping bows or knives will do the trick against a bullet.
